Sasha Martinengo and his team at Hot 91.9 Fm together with the Owl Rescue Centre gave one luckily listener a 2018 Ford Mustang 5.0L V8 on Valentine’s Day morning. The draw took place just outside the Hot 91.9fm studios in Northridriding.

The lucky winner, Peet Kuhn, was in shock when the call was made to let him know he was the lucky one. He had bought a ticket the night before, not expecting to actually win but Peet, a lover of owls (there is a Beautiful Grey Spotted Owl in his garden), is an avid sports car fan and a huge supporter of Hot 91.9 Fm.

Proceeds raised from the competition, which sold over 6 000 tickets, went directly to the Owl Rescue Centre, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of owls and other birds of prey in South Africa. Hot 91.9fm Managing Director, Lloyd Madurai, said enthused “we were very happy with the response from our generous audience who are always supportive of our initiatives. In keeping with our passionate commitment to the community that we serve, we are proud to be able to assist in the protection of our wildlife”.

The funds raised will towards the following: Owl Rehabilitation, Owl House Project, Owl-Friendly Rat Traps, Release Enclosures, Hunting Platforms, Bat houses and Education. Each year Owl Rescue Centre continues to advance its mission of protecting, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing of owls. The goal of the Owl Rescue Centre is to continue to make a difference in owl conservation. With the help of donations and competitions such as these, we will continue to see a decrease in the owl mortality rate and a positive future for all owl species in Southern Africa.

This initiative has raised awareness around the need to protect wild owls in their natural habitat and to create awareness around having them in our gardens and residential areas. You can find out more on the Owl Rescue Center here.
