It’s been a dry, dry Summer. The third booze ban’s has finally been lifted and we are beyond ecstatic.
Luckily for us, there is still some Summer left. And what better way to enjoy it than with a delicious cocktail.
Here are four spirit-based cocktails – two alcoholic and two non-alcoholic – to say cheers to hitting the beach this coming weekend!
Hint: If you’ve taken a more mindful approach in 2021, try out the Cape Fynbos Creation or the Fluére Gimlet. Both non-alcoholic spirits enable discerning drinkers to switch from alcoholic to non-alcoholic cocktails seamlessly given the mouthfeel, integrity of the flavours and quality of the liquid.
Clementino Prosecco Smash
50ml Ginato Clementino Gin
20ml Sugar syrup
20ml Lemon juice
50ml Mionetto Prosecco
*Mix one cup of sugar with one cup of water and bring to the boil in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Cook at a rapid simmer until the mixture thickens slightly (about 8 minutes). Remove from heat and add one tablespoon of vanilla essence. Leave too cool.
Add all ingredients except for the Prosecco, churn over crushed ice, top with Prosecco and
garnish with orange slices.
25ml Bloedlemoen Gin
25ml full cream sherry
Stir all ingredients together, and strain into a tumbler glass with a big block of ice. Squeeze the oil, form the orange peel, over the drink.
Cape Fynbos Creation (non-alcoholic)
50ml Abstinence Cape Fynbos
Premium tonic water
Pour the Abstinence over ice blocks, top with tonic water (we recommend Fever Tree) and garnish with lemon peel and a few Summer berries.
What to expect from Abstinence
Inspired by the astounding biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom, Abstinence Cape Fynbos draws
its inspiration from the indigenous Cape Rose Geranium. A beautifully floral creation that with the addition of Juniper berries, Angelica root and Coriander give it that trademark resemblance to Gin with slightly bitter, slightly herbal, and faintly nettle-like notes.
Fluère Gimlet (non-alcoholic)
60ml Fluère Original
20ml Lime cordial
Add ingredients into a mixing glass, stir for 10 seconds, pour into a gimlet glass and drop in a maraschino cherry.
