Cape flats rapper Catherine Pretorius who is more popularly known as her alter ego Dope Saint Jude was on the bill at this year’s Cape Town International Jazz festival. She is a hip-hop artist whose music, as art critics say; speaks about substantial issues.

The aim of her performance style is to manipulate and seduce people to step up and hear what she has to say. She prides herself on her unapologetic Cape accent which immediately sets her apart from the wanna-be American-style hip-hop adopted by to many South African artists.

The artist is very specific on the production of her music and says “I only use instruments that bring about a certain feeling, otherwise I would not use it.” She has no formal music training and it’s clear that she has a flair for the arts.
