Everyone loves unique and one-of-a-kind clothing. Who doesn’t like wearing something which nobody else has? And the answer to getting your hands on these clothes is thrift shopping.
There are a number of reasons why I think buying from thrift stores should be considered more often. Firstly, you are reducing your carbon footprint by buying thrifted clothing, because you’re not contributing to new materials being used to manufacture your clothes. Fast fashion is well known for making clothes which disintegrate after a year or two whereas the quality on thrifted items is generally superior. And some pieces have really stood the test of time.
Another big factor is these clothes are generally more comfortable because they are worn in, and who doesn’t like comfy clothes? Being a young adult, price always plays a big role when considering what clothes to buy and thrifted clothes are much more affordable.
The last great benefit from buying thrifted clothes is the unique pieces that you can find. You can find clothes which nobody else has ever seen. One of my favourites shirts cost me R15. You get great items at great prices, what more do you want?
So next time you have some extra cash and want some funky clothes, be like Macklemore and go thrift shopping. One of my personal favourites is Yams Archive on Instagram, so if you are not sure where to start, start there.
I have also done a short video on Instagram of me talking about thrift stores. Check it out: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CHsOhczDoMj/?igshid=owk1uqy2o22d
