August on Lifetime (DStv 131) is jam-packed with movies. From their best biopics and true stories to gripping made-for-TV movies, they’ve got powerful (and sometimes crazy) women at the fore this Women’s Month.

‘Ripped from the Headlines’
Every Saturday and Sunday at 19h20 Lifetime brings stories straight from the headlines to your screen.

They premiere the heart-wrenching movie I Was Lorena Bobbitt on Saturday, 29 August at 19h20. Lorena Bobbitt became a household name and made tabloid headlines when after years of abuse by her husband, she cut off his penis with a knife in 1993. Now nearly 30 years later, Lorena tells her story, and hers alone, for the first time with Lifetime. This film follows her journey from a wide-eyed, immigrant bride to a battered wife into an unlikely media sensation. I Was Lorena Bobbitt also documents her ultimately emerging as a strong, thoughtful woman who has devoted her life to advocating for other abused women.

Other riveting ‘ripped from the headlines’ titles include; Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, Simone Biles: The Courage to Soar, Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal, Kidnapped: The Hannah Anderson Story, Abducted: The Mary Stauffer Story and Stolen by my Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story.

Other brand new movies
Also featured, abrand-new Lifetime movie with women heroes, villains and victims; Into the Arms of Danger (31 August at 20h05).
