Charity Market Under the Jacarandas

Following 13 very successful Christmas markets in George Hay park, Nicarela charity is this year holding a fun, summer festival, hoping to raise funds for their charities. Parktown High School for Girls is the venue for this year’s Nicarela charity market taking place October 7-9 and visitors will be able to enjoy all their favourite attractions in the lovely grounds of this historic school.

The school, situated in the Jacaranda filled village of Parkview is the perfect place for market stalls and food trucks to provide a festive day out. Craft beer, Perfect Cup coffee and a host of exciting food vendors will be serving up delicious meals while local school choirs and bands entertain.

Nicarela’s popular Christmas market has been reinvented to offer patrons a new experience, said Chairman of Nicarela, Peter Atteridge. “The Market under the Jacarandas is a copy and paste of the original market in George Hay Park- with a modern, summer twist. The most important thing for us is to offer a wonderful visitor experience because we have charities relying on us to support them.”

Nicarela currently has over 10 beneficiary charities on their books. According to Atteridge the market profits will be a welcome boost to the fund which has experienced an understandable lull over the past two years.

All profits taken at the Jacaranda market will go directly to the umbrella fund which sponsors organisations such as Frida Hartley, Guild Cottage, Hospice Wits and Bethany. For a full list of the charities, please visitwww.nicarela.org.

The market promises something for everyone with live music and DJs throughout the 3 days. Parents can shop and relax with peace of mind while their kids enjoy the various games, activities and inflatables in the dedicated children’s park. Four-legged friends are welcome if on a lead.

Market stalls in attendance include jewellery, clothing, deli delights and children’s toys. Visitors can choose from the various food stalls including pork ribs, vegetarian Buddha bowls, burgers and pancakes.

“We still have our highly sought after Oyster and Champagne bar which brings in a lot of visitors. These are freshly shucked oysters from the West coast,” said Atteridge. The Nicarela team charged with organizing the market are all volunteers but many more hands are required to help make the 3 day event such a success. If you wish to assist in any way- be it working at the event or sponsoring in any way- please emailnicarelacharity@gmail.com.

“Our past success was deeply rooted in the support of the local Parkview community, and we are hoping they once again embrace this worthy initiative the way they always have,” said Atteridge.
