Hotel rooms are not all the same, from the design, color scheme, layout and amenities they offer.
At a recent stay at the Bridgewater Hotel in Century City, we had the opportunity to find out more about their modern design.
What is the inspiration behind the open-plan design style of the rooms?
The open-plan rooms draw inspiration from design trends in Europe that prioritise simplicity and use space wisely.
What have you kept from traditional hotel room design models and what innovation has been brought in?
The traditional elements of luxury and comfort that we have come to expect from any hotel, and what makes the backbone of any good hotel experience has been kept, but we have brought in innovation in terms of how space is utilised and the use of modern technology with our intelligent TVs, wireless chargers and the elimination of paper by using electronic directories displayed on the TV’s upon check-in.
Instead of Blackout curtains, you have blackout blinds – which work so well! Besides this design choice, tell me about the design of the lobby.
The blackout blinds are a nod to the simplistic design in the rooms that aim to provide luxurious comfort and of course a good night’s sleep, without being too fussy. The lobby is inspired by the hotel’s surroundings – the vast hectares of Ratanga Park and it’s canal – the beautiful natural elements are reflected in the décor of the hotel and lobby. The lobby also leads seamlessly into Gusto Urban Italian Restaurant so that the space is always bustling and inviting.
We’re so used to coffee and tea in the rooms, why have you decided to leave this out?
Initially, we wanted to create a reason for our guests to use the communal spaces and interact with their surroundings, by putting a coffee station in the hotel lobby. Within all aspects of our business, listening to our guests and evolving to their needs is paramount, we have therefore decided to tea and coffee stations in the rooms, as it has become clear that travellers love these comforts of home when staying in a hotel. This will therefore be a new feature introduced in the rooms over the coming months.
What is the importance of a quality soap and bathroom amenity offering?
Often, hotels overlook the importance of a quality soap offering, as it is seldomly used, or taken home by guests. But here at Century City Hotels, we believe that no detail is too small and the small touches of elegance make the biggest difference.
