COVID is an asshole. Actually I have a few more colourful words for it, but this is a public platform, and apparently profanity is frowned upon.
Shona Ferguson was a 47-year old, Botswana born, South African actor, executive producer and co-founder of Ferguson Films. This is what his CV says. But what do the people say.
His wife, Connie Ferguson, paid tribute to the man who held her heart for the last 20 years on instagram. The man who was her world. A loving husband, father, son and brother, a friend, a colleague, a force to be reckoned with.
I met him once at a function, when functions still happened. And did I have a fan girl moment. Together with his wife, they were charismatic and commanded a room. Love was palpable around this couple and #couplegoals had a face.
This giant of a man, succumbed to COVID on Saturday 30 July. Like a thief in the night, it came and stole a shining star from our milky way.
Words fail me, as what do you say to the people left behind? Condolences? Deepest sympathies? Love and light? It all sounds so clinical, and empty.
So to Connie, and all those who were touched by his magic, I say, Sorry that you have been robbed. Sorry that you have to fathom a world without your loved one. Thank you for sharing him with all of us, for letting us experience a fraction of his amazingness.
May you find peace and comfort during this time, and over time remember him with smiles instead of heart ache.
The Vibe ZA
