As we say goodbye to winter and hello to summer, why not say hello health? Post pandemic we are all aware that health is more than just what you weigh, but more importantly about how you feel in your own body. Healthy living is about a combination of different factors coming together to keep you feeling your best. If you are healthy on the inside that will reflect on the outside.
Spring cleaning your home at the end of the season has become a common occurrence. With a focus on health starting on the inside, spring cleaning our bodies isn’t that far of a stretch. If the tip for spring cleaning your home is keeping only the things that spark joy, we think a similar approach to our bodies applies.
“Health is so much deeper than simply fitting into a weight category. Each of us is unique and our bodies all function in their own way.” Says Catherine Clark, owner, and founder of The Harvest Table. Like spring cleaning our homes, all that’s needed in the spring clean of our bodies is an audit and some discipline. “When it comes to healthy eating, we should always prioritize the health of our body over the weight of it. Focusing on getting more healthy foods in, rather than on what you are keeping out, is a good mind set to start with.” Says Clark.
By putting our health first, we will begin to change our experience of certain foods, being more likely to make better choices in what we eat, and less likely to be drawn to foods that make us feel sluggish, bloated, or guilty. Clark went on to give us her top 5 tips to ‘spark joy’ on your health and weight loss journey:
- Eat as natural as possible.
One quick glance at the ingredients list or label of some of your favorite foods will show you how many artificial additives and colorants are being added to foods these days. Try to stay away from things like hidden sugar, preservatives, colorants, and other additives. As a rule, the more chemicals, and additives you find in your food the less healthy it is. A good question to ask yourself when looking for healthy food is “How close is this to what came out of the ground?”
- Start moving.
Start small – there is no need to sign up to a gym just yet. Make small commitments that you can incorporate into your daily routine with ease, take the stairs instead of the elevator or park a little further away from the entrance to the shops. Start small and commit to moving more tomorrow than you did today.
- Substitute one meal a day with The Harvest Tables Lean Shake.
Getting the right number of healthy foods into your day can be difficult, and time consuming. Take the pressure off and try substituting a meal for a shake. The Harvest Table Lean Shake is a protein-rich meal replacement. It contains healthy fats in the form of our coconut based MCT oil powder. The addition of L-Glutamine assists with cravings and weight loss and the shake is sweetened with The Harvest Table trademarked low-carb Lean SUGA and comes in Chocolate and Vanilla. This shake can be enjoyed hot or cold.
- Drink more water.
Easier than changing your diet overnight, start small with just adding in one extra glass of water a day. Increasing water intake can result in clearer skin, healthier gut and helps with weight loss. Hate the taste? Try adding in some freshly squeezed lemon or slices of fruit. Keep challenging yourself until you are drinking the recommended two liters a day.
- Laugh more.
Laughter – the best medicine for your internal and external health. Studies show that laughter lowers blood pressure, reduces stress, and improves cardiac health. It also triggers the release of endorphins that east chronic pain. Choose to spend time with people who make you laugh, enjoy your family, and loved ones and make the decision to watch less news and more comedy’s.
Make a few changes here and there and finish the year strong. Setting yourself and your family up with new routines and rhythms will be something that you are grateful for in the future.
