Hair is the big conversation around town and the latest trends say that the bigger the better! Unlike straight hair, curly and coily hair brings with it completely different needs. Textured hair requires a great deal of maintenance, care and of course, the right type of products to give you the shine, volume and bounce you deserve.
Our hair is an intimate expression of our identity which deserves to be fully expressed and cultivated. There is a lot of hair care and styling tips but very seldom is it educating you on how you can hydrate, strengthen and define all types of curly hair.
Finding the right products to nurture and nourish your curls is everything, products like the Kérastase’ Curl Manifesto range can help extend the life of the salon services you are already getting. It will also further protects your hair from the elements and heat styling.
Hair-fluencer, Nuzhah Jacobs, says that to keep her curls hydrated, big, bold and bouncy she has developed a great and simple four-step routine with tricks that can help you wear your curls with pride and confidence:
- Daily routines without proper care can lead to long term damage. To avoid this, Nuzhah uses a bit of water in a spray bottle followed by the second day curl refreshing spray to show up without damaging her curls.
“I can’t stress the importance of care and caution when it comes to my curls, I go as far as using hair oils to coat and hydrate my hands to properly separate my curls without any damage,” says Nuzhah Jacobs.
- Nighttime is true self-care time for queens with curls. Pre-sleep routines prepare you and your hair for the day ahead, to keep her curls happy and healthy throughout the night, Nuzhah sleeps with a bonnet or satin scarf. This does wonders for keeping the curls intact for the next day and prevents frizz and dents from tossing and turning in your sleep. “My advice for all women with long curly hair is to mask often, go for regular trims and detangle your hair preferably when wet and stay away from brushing out dry hair or using high heat when diffusing or styling their hair.”
- Another top tip is; understanding your hair goes a long way. “My hair is colour treated so it needs extra moisture. Leave-in treatments do wonders for me, it’s a must before applying any styling cremes or gels, they always leave my hair feeling soft making detangling a breeze and reducing frizz from styling or air drying.
- Washing is an important part of the process. There’s no one size fits all approach when it comes to it, how often you wash your hair should be determined by the production of your natural oils, but generally, “I would recommend washing 2 times a week. If your curls begin to feel extra dry, try washing less often as you may be stripping your hair of natural oils it needs to stay healthy.”
The all-new curl manifesto range allows you to mix and match products to create your very own curl manifesto routine because no one knows your hair better than you and Kérastase.
