Long lunches are making a comeback in Johannesburg, but they’re looking very different from the indulgent afternoons of the past.

Today’s diners are increasingly embracing healthier lifestyles, choosing lighter meals, reducing their alcohol intake and looking for dining experiences that leave them feeling refreshed rather than sluggish. From professionals stepping away from the office for a midday break to friends reconnecting over lunch and families celebrating special occasions, wellness has become just as important as flavour.

Responding to this growing shift, The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg has unveiled a new five-course Prix Fixe Lite Lunch Menu, available from Thursday to Sunday, alongside an innovative range of sophisticated 0% cocktail pairings designed specifically for the growing sober-curious movement.

The result is a lunch experience that celebrates bold flavours, exceptional ingredients and mindful living—without compromising on indulgence.

Grapefruit Martini

A Fresh Take on Midday Dining

Located at The Peech Hotel, The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg has built its reputation on creative sharing plates, vibrant flavours and contemporary dining. The newly introduced lunch menu retains that signature identity while offering a lighter experience suited to daytime dining.

The carefully curated five-course menu showcases seasonal produce, vegetables, lean proteins and layered flavours that encourage sharing around the table.

Guests can enjoy:

  • Bean Taco 2.0 with pickled shiitake, black bean purée, charred corn salsa, avocado and chipotle dressing.
  • Asian Salad with miso crumble, pickled winter vegetables, toasted sesame emulsion, cucumber and togarashi-fried cabbage.
  • Wild Mushroom Gnudi served with celeriac cream and porcini reduction.
  • Seared Kingklip accompanied by corn velouté, OG XO, spring onion, charred baby corn and basil.
  • Apple & Fennel Dessert featuring fennel sponge cake, fennel and coconut sorbet, braised apple, lime curd and fennel crumb.

Each course delivers the playful, punchy flavours that have become synonymous with The Pot Luck Club while offering a menu designed to leave diners feeling energised.

Cocktails Without the Alcohol

Complementing the menu is one of the restaurant’s most exciting additions—a thoughtfully designed 0% cocktail pairing created for guests who enjoy the ritual and complexity of cocktails without consuming alcohol.

Rather than serving simple soft drinks, the mixology team has developed sophisticated alcohol-free creations that mirror the balance, aroma and theatre traditionally associated with cocktail culture.

Among the highlights are:

  • Grapefruit Martini with grapefruit juice, lime and Abstinence Cape Citrus.
  • Passionfruit & Lemongrass Martini.
  • Elderflower & Cucumber with fresh mint and muddled cucumber.
  • Blood Orange Spritz featuring Abstinence Aperitif and Allure Brut 0%.
  • Caribbean Coconut with pineapple, lime and elderflower.

Each pairing has been designed to complement the menu’s vibrant flavours and varied textures while allowing guests to remain clear-headed for the rest of the day.

Asian Pickled Salad

Dining That Reflects Modern Lifestyles

According to Vicky Peech, co-owner of The Peech Hotel and The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg, today’s diners are approaching lunch with a different mindset.

“As a mother, a business owner and someone who prioritises health and fitness, I understand how differently people approach lunch today,” she says.

“You want to enjoy a beautiful meal and spend quality time with work colleagues, or friends and family, but you also want to leave feeling energised. More people are choosing to abstain from alcohol during the day, and many are looking for lighter options that support their wellness objectives without sacrificing flavour. This menu delivers exactly that. It’s generous, colourful, gut-friendly and packed with flavour and designed to be shared, while the 0% cocktail pairing makes it feel every bit as special as a traditional wine-paired lunch.”

A Reflection of the Sober-Curious Movement

The launch mirrors a wider global dining trend as more consumers embrace the sober-curious lifestyle—choosing alcohol-free beverages not because they have to, but because they want to prioritise wellness, balance and mindful living.

Today’s diners increasingly seek memorable social experiences where exceptional food, creative drinks and meaningful conversation take centre stage, without alcohol being the defining feature.

By introducing a lighter sharing menu alongside premium alcohol-free cocktails, The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg is responding to this changing landscape while offering guests another way to experience one of Johannesburg’s most celebrated restaurants.

Plan Your Visit

The Prix Fixe Lite Lunch Sharing Menu is priced at R545 per person, while the 0% cocktail pairing is available for R350 per person.

Lunch is served Thursday to Sunday from 12:00, with the last booking at 2:00pm. Dinner remains available Tuesday to Saturday from 6:00pm, with final bookings at 9:00pm.

Whether you’re celebrating with friends, entertaining clients, enjoying a leisurely afternoon or simply exploring a fresh approach to fine dining, The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg’s newest offering proves that memorable lunches don’t need heavy meals or alcoholic drinks to make a lasting impression.
