Samsung is taking wearable technology to the next level with the launch of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, introducing a new generation of smartwatches designed to transform everyday health monitoring into meaningful, personalised guidance.

Announced by Samsung Electronics, the latest Galaxy Watch lineup combines powerful hardware, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced biometric tracking and improved comfort to help users better understand their health while seamlessly fitting into daily life. From athletes pushing physical limits to everyday users looking to build healthier habits, Samsung’s newest wearables promise deeper insights, longer battery life and smarter wellness support directly from the wrist.

AI turns health data into everyday guidance

At the heart of both devices is Samsung’s vision of AI-powered preventive healthcare.

Using Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 continuously collect biometric information and convert complex health data into practical recommendations that help users understand what is happening inside their bodies and what actions they should take next.

Built on years of clinical research conducted alongside internationally recognised universities and medical institutions, Samsung’s latest AI health platform focuses on several key areas of wellbeing, including:

  • Sleep quality
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Physical activity
  • Recovery
  • Overall wellness

New health features available across both smartwatches include:

  • Sleep Apnea detection with newly FDA-cleared AI algorithms for deeper sleep breathing insights.
  • Vitals, which monitors a user’s personal health baseline during sleep and alerts users to significant changes.
  • Heart Health Score, providing an easy-to-understand cardiovascular wellness score alongside personalised recommendations.
  • Daily Cardio Load, helping users balance training intensity and recovery.
  • Fitness Index, offering personalised goals based on overall fitness levels.
  • Hearing monitoring, which alerts users to unsafe noise levels while providing detailed hearing reports.

Together, these features position Samsung’s newest watches as comprehensive wellness companions rather than simple fitness trackers.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 built for extreme performance

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is Samsung’s most advanced Galaxy Watch yet, created for adventurers, endurance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who demand exceptional durability and precision.

Dedicated sports tracking modes allow users to monitor challenging outdoor activities with greater accuracy.

The new Trail Run feature records elevation changes, climbing progress and terrain impact, helping runners pace themselves more effectively while reducing injury risk.

Samsung has also introduced Nutrition Alert, expanding on the existing Sweat Loss feature by estimating hydration requirements based on sweat loss relative to body weight, giving athletes real-time hydration guidance during runs.

For underwater adventures, the Ultra2 is designed with professional diving in mind.

Certified with IP69K, 10 ATM water resistance and EN13319 standards, the smartwatch automatically records depth, dive time and water temperature once users enter the water.

Later this year, Samsung plans to introduce the Ultra2 Diving app, developed with diving equipment manufacturer Mares, bringing advanced diving tools such as ascent and descent speed tracking and safe dive limits.

Bigger battery, brighter display and improved comfort

Powering these advanced features is Samsung’s most capable Galaxy Watch hardware to date.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 features:

  • Massive 800mAh battery, representing a 35% increase over the previous Ultra model.
  • Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform.
  • Samsung’s first smartwatch display reaching 5,000 nits of brightness for exceptional outdoor visibility.
  • A slimmer design that is 12% thinner than its predecessor despite the larger battery.
  • Lightweight, softer bands for greater comfort during extended wear.
  • Rugged titanium construction for enhanced durability.

The combination allows users to comfortably wear the watch throughout the day while collecting more accurate biometric data.

Galaxy Watch9 focuses on everyday wellness

While the Ultra2 targets adventure seekers, the Galaxy Watch9 is designed as Samsung’s everyday health companion.

Built around long-term wellness, the watch encourages healthier daily routines through continuous tracking of sleep, activity and overall wellbeing.

The Galaxy Watch9 features:

  • Lightweight aluminium casing.
  • Redesigned cushion-shaped body for a more natural wrist fit.
  • Soft interchangeable bands for all-day comfort.
  • Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform for faster performance.
  • 390mAh battery for reliable all-day tracking.
  • Bright 3,000-nit display for improved readability in various lighting conditions.

Samsung says the comfortable fit encourages continuous wear, resulting in more consistent health monitoring.

Customisable bands for every lifestyle

Samsung is also expanding personalisation with new band collections tailored for different lifestyles.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 bands

Users can choose from:

  • Marine Band
  • PeakForm Band
  • Trail Band

Each is designed for specific environments ranging from diving and outdoor adventures to everyday wear.

Galaxy Watch9 bands

The Watch9 lineup introduces:

  • Sports Band
  • Misty Band
  • Fabric Band

These options combine comfort, style and versatility for workouts, sleep tracking and everyday use.

Samsung Care+ adds extra peace of mind

Samsung is pairing the new watches with enhanced Samsung Care+, providing accidental damage protection, extended warranty coverage and certified repair support.

Users can also manage Samsung Care+ directly through the Warranty and Care menu available on Galaxy smartphones running One UI 9.

Bonus subscriptions included

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 buyers also receive exclusive trial offers, including:

  • 60-day Strava Premium trial
  • 2-month iFIT trial

These subscriptions allow users to expand their fitness experiences through guided training, workout tracking and global fitness communities.

South African pricing and availability

Samsung says the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 will launch alongside the new Galaxy Z series, expanding the company’s AI-powered ecosystem across smartphones, wearables and connected devices.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will be available in 47mm with Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray finishes.

The Galaxy Watch9 will be available in:

  • 40mm: Cream and Graphite
  • 44mm: Graphite and Silver

Recommended South African pricing

  • Galaxy Watch Ultra2 — R14,999
  • Galaxy Watch9 Small LTE — R8,999

Samsung says the new Galaxy Watch lineup reflects its continued commitment to making AI-driven health intelligence more accessible, helping users better understand their bodies while supporting healthier lifestyles through smarter wearable technology.
