Disney+ has officially confirmed that production on the highly anticipated second season of the hit sci-fi drama is now underway in London, while unveiling three major additions to its growing ensemble cast. Award-winning actress Tracey Ullman, acclaimed British actor Sam Spruell, and Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn have all signed on for Season 2, joining the previously announced Peter Dinklage.
Created for television by Noah Hawley, the globally successful series will return exclusively to Disney+ in South Africa, where all episodes of the first season are already available to stream.
Three Acclaimed Performers Join the Alien Universe
The latest casting announcement adds even more star power to an already impressive international lineup.
Tracey Ullman, whose legendary career spans television, film and comedy, is best known for The Tracey Ullman Show, the groundbreaking series that introduced audiences to The Simpsons. Throughout her career, Ullman has earned numerous accolades, including seven Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA, three CableACE Awards and eight American Comedy Awards.
Her recent work includes appearances in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mrs. America, Howards End, Into the Woods, and Netflix’s Steve.
Joining her is Sam Spruell, one of Britain’s most versatile actors, who reunites with Noah Hawley after previously working together on the Emmy-nominated anthology series Fargo.
Spruell most recently appeared in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premiered as the highest-rated first season within the Game of Thrones universe on Rotten Tomatoes. His upcoming projects include the sixth Insidious film and Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars.
His extensive filmography also includes The Martian, Outlaw King, Legend, Snow White & The Huntsman, Taken 3, Defiance, The Hurt Locker, K-19: The Widowmaker, The Gold, Luther, Small Axe, The North Water, and Dear England.
The third new addition is Jerome Flynn, widely recognised for his memorable role in HBO’s Game of Thrones. More recently, Flynn starred opposite Harrison Ford in Paramount+’s 1923 and has also appeared in Black Mirror, Ripper Street, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
Returning Cast Continues to Grow
The newly announced trio will join returning lead Sydney Chandler, alongside an extensive international cast that includes Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, and others.
The expanding cast reflects the ambitious scale of the series as it continues building one of television’s most intriguing science fiction worlds.
A Story That Reimagines the Alien Mythology
Season one introduced audiences to a chilling new chapter in the iconic Alien franchise.
The story follows Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, and a team of tactical soldiers after the mysterious deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth. Their investigation leads them to an extraordinary discovery that places humanity face-to-face with one of the greatest threats ever encountered.
Set in the year 2120, the series presents a future where Earth is controlled by five powerful corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold.
Within this Corporate Era, humans live alongside cyborgs and synthetics. The technological landscape changes dramatically when the founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation develops hybrids—humanoid robots infused with human consciousness.
