Comic Con Africa is excited to announce a partnership with Afro Geek Fest to expand on the diverse festival for fans of comic books and geek culture in Africa. This collaboration is set to celebrate and amplify the voices of African creators, showcasing the richness and uniqueness of African comics and geek culture.

The inaugural Afro Geek Pavilion, a brand-new feature to Comic Con Africa in the pop culture hall, will be the embodiment of this partnership. The area – in addition to other elements on the Comic Con Africa floor – serves as an opportunity for afro geeks, creators, and fans to unite and share their passion for comics and all aspects of geek culture. Attendees can look forward to relevant exhibitors in this area that uplift and redefine what it means to be an African geek as well as content such as discussions and panels hosted on the pop content stage. The pavilion will cover all aspects of afro-geek culture, including anime, cosplay, gaming, and pop culture.

“We are extremely excited to announce that we have partnered with Comic Con Africa and will be collaborating with them at this year’s event.”, said Tapelo Zama, Creative Director and Co-founder of Afro Geek. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to connect with fellow afro geeks and work towards building a more inclusive environment in the local nerd community.”

“We have compiled a massive panel of awesome guests that we’ll be interviewing over the course of the event as well as a special Afro Geek Pavilion where you can find exclusive art and comic books from the best talent from in and outside the country.” Zama added.

Comic Con Africa and Afro Geek invite all fans of comics and geek culture to join them on this exciting journey of discovery and celebration. Whether you’re an avid reader, a casual fan, or new to the world of African comics, this festival promises to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Comic Con Africa Show Director, Carla Massmann, welcomed the partnership saying “Any time that we can build the Comic Con community is a good time. We love the initiative by Afro Geek and are excited to amplify the cause by hosting the Afro Geek Pavilion.”.

Massmann added that “We believe that representation in mainstream pop culture matters, and we are committed to creating a space where African creators and fans can come together to celebrate their shared love of comics and geek culture,”

Stay tuned to Comic Con Africa and Afro Geek’s social media pages for more updates and announcements on Afro Geek Pavilion. Comic Con Africa is happening at the Johannesburg Expo Centre (Nasrec), from 22 to 25 September 2023. Tickets are available on Howler through this link:
