Following the resounding success of the Women in Entertainment Breakfast at FAME Week Africa 2023, an event brimming with positive energy and inspiration, FAME Week Africa, in collaboration with EarCandy Dubbing, is thrilled to extend a powerful invitation: Join the African Women in Entertainment Collective (AWE Collective)!
The 2023 Women in Entertainment Breakfast, held at FAME Week Africa, brought together an extraordinary assembly of talented women from the music, film, and television sectors. This event served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of experiences, forging connections, and celebrating the achievements of women in the entertainment industry. The highlight of the morning was the presence of esteemed guest speaker, Mo Abudu, recognised by The Hollywood Reporter as the Top International Woman Executive in Entertainment.
Building on the momentum generated at the breakfast, FAME Week Africa and EarCandy Dubbing are thrilled to introduce the AWE Collective—an initiative designed to uplift, empower, and unite women in the entertainment industry.
Women in key creative roles in the African film industry have historically been underrepresented. According to a UNESCO report, women comprised around 20% of key creative roles in African cinema. Women in the African music industry, both as artists and industry professionals, face challenges in achieving parity with their male counterparts. The exact percentage may vary across different regions and genres.
“The AWE Collective is a ground-breaking initiative that reflects FAME Week’s Africa’s commitment to fostering a supportive and empowering environment for women in the entertainment industry. Together, we can create lasting change,” says Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director of FAME Week Africa.
WHY JOIN AWE COLLECTIVE?
·      Uplifting and Empowering: AWE Collective is your safe space, where women are celebrated, supported, and encouraged to pursue their passions fearlessly.
·      Collaboration: Break down borders together! AWE Collective fosters cross-border collaborations, creating a powerful network to tell impactful stories that resonate far and wide.
·      Continuous Learning: As an AWE member, you’ll have access to a range of workshops, seminars, and industry insights, equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in our ever-evolving entertainment landscape.
·      Navigating Challenges Together: The entertainment industry can be tough, but with AWE Collective, you won’t face challenges alone. We offer unwavering support to help you overcome obstacles and celebrate triumphs, both big and small.
“Education is a cornerstone of empowerment. Through our collaboration with FAME Week Africa to launch the AWE Collective, EarCandy Dubbing is dedicated to providing accessible learning opportunities that will contribute to the growth and success of women in entertainment,” says Louise Callcott-Stevens, Chief Executive Officer: EarCandy.
Ready to embark on this transformative journey? Click here to sign up and become a part of the AWE Collective. The deadline for registration is 14 December 2023.
Let’s make 2024 a year of empowerment, unity, and progress for women in entertainment. Sign up now and be a driving force in this powerful movement!” concludes Hiller.
FAME Week Africa returns to the City of Cape Town from 1 to 7 September 2024.
