The most stylish event on South Africa’s social calendar – the GQ Best Dressed Awards – is ready to welcome fashion mavens and style setters to a grand affair on the 27th of August 2022, this year in celebration of the eloquence of personal stylish expression.

The awards ceremony, which has been a staple on the event calendar for more than 16 years, recognises the personal flair of some of South Africa’s most fashionably sophisticated, and will once again be hosted in Sandton, Gauteng. But before the event, we get to meet one of the front-runners.

Josh Van Greunen is a content creator and addicted to footwear. This prince of style has a unique flair to what he wears and we got to know him a bit better.

Having always had a passion for clothing and footwear, what went through your mind when you were nominated?
To be honest I was initially quite shocked as there were so many great entrants. I appreciate being nominated as it’s a good way to have some reassurance that people enjoy what I am doing with the content creation.

How do you define the term “best dressed”?
To define best dressed is a tricky one as I feel that should be based on creativity and personality. Anyone can buy expensive clothes but having your own personal style is something that’s important. I think best dressed should be someone that is willing to wear what they want and have fun with it.

How do you define your style?
I like to think of my style as an extension of my personality – I am who I am. Many people might not like some things that I wear and that’s fine. It’s not for others, it’s about wearing what I find interesting and like. In a world where everyone is trying to conform, I don’t think it’s so bad to embrace being different. I think it came from being ginger. Growing up I had to learn to be true to myself, which translated into me trying new things with what I wear and enjoying what I wear.
