Following the successful show, Kim Williams shares some valuable insights and predictions that she reflects on from Decorex Cape Town 2023:

  • Bursts of colour: We have since 2021 predicted the return of colour and it was joyous to experience a colourful Decorex that showcased a vibrant resurgence of colour, signalling its triumphant return to interior design. From natural grounding tones to rich and bold earthy palettes, colour took centre stage, creating a visually stimulating experience.

  • Grounding and reconnecting: The trend of grounding and reconnecting with the planet continues to grow roots and was evident throughout the exhibition, with low seating being used in various spaces. The combination of natural materials and incorporation of crafts underscored the importance of staying connected to nature and circular design.

  • Micro-living: Small spaces and space-saving furniture that embraces minimalism in a unique and beautiful way continues to pick up traction, catering to the needs of apartment living in compact environments and the need for mult-functional spaces.

  • Cocoon living: Clear illustrations of a cohesive lifestyle and living were prevalent, with the use of natural fibres as a base to add comfort and warmth to inviting cocoon-spaces that create a sense of comfort and cosiness.

  • Fusion of green luxury: Decor themes featured a delightful blend of indigenous greenery, both natural and artificial, alongside elements that exuded a sense of luxury and opulence. The fusion of chic design, Afrocentric arts, and handcrafted items made bold statements about personal style.

  • Seamless spaces: Stone and surfaces reflecting the overall design aesthetic, with a trend towards inlaid furniture, built-in wall coverings, and shelving is back. These seamlessly designed spaces were ready to move into, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
