Capturing the spirit and terroir of Mauritius, Major Philippe rum makes its global debut with a premium collection that combines tradition with forward-thinking sustainability. Crafted from volcanic soil-nurtured sugarcane and produced using eco-conscious methods, the brand launches as consumers increasingly seek premium spirits with authentic origins and environmental credentials.

Major Philippe’s portfolio features three distinctive expressions named after significant landmarks in southern Mauritius, each inspired by adventurers whose passion for exploration led to the cultivation of sugarcane, the foundation for this Mauritian rum collection: Britannia – a premium pure cane juice white rum, Mon Trésor – a gold rum, and Ilot Brocus – in two variants, a spiced rum and an indulgent sweet dark rum liqueur. Major Philippe invites drinkers to share in the spirit of Mauritius and journey through the island’s vibrant and exotic cultural tapestry.

Sustainable Production in Paradise: Mauritius’ Green Rum Revolution

The rum is crafted from locally harvested sugarcane using Omnicane Ltd.’s acclaimed circular economy approach bringing its internationally recognised sustainability practices to rum production. These practises have earned Omnicane Ltd, Mauritius’s largest producers of sugarcane, prestigious recognition including thePwC Sustainability Award 2023 and 2024.

“Today’s rum buyers seek eco-friendly spirits with provenance and heritage,” says Jacques M. d’Unienville, CEO of Omnicane. “We meet these expectations through sustainable sugarcane cultivation and energy-efficient distillation Our rum is one of the most environmentally responsible rum brands available today.”Major Philippe aims to establish itself as a leader in eco-friendly rum production while showcasing Mauritius as an emerging premium rum destination. This dual focus creates a unique market position where environmental responsibility meets exotic terroir.  The brand’s environmental innovations include a closed-loop system where sugarcane residue waste powers distillation while capturing and repurposing 25 tons of CO₂ daily. Distillation by-products return to the fields as natural fertilizers, creating a circular production model.

Rum Trends shaping rum consumption in 2025

Major Philippe strategically aligns with key rum trends for 2025, addressing the growing demand for both eco-conscious spirits and premium aged expressions. The premium rum segment has grown significantly, with a 7% annual increase from 2018 to 2023 and a projected growth rate of 6% annually through 2028. Sipping rums now compete directly with whiskey and Cognac, accounting for nearly 20% of global rum consumption.

Flavoured and spiced rums are gaining popularity, especially with the 18-34 demographic. This category shows strong momentum, with the global spiced rum market valued at USD 7 billion in 2024 and expected to reach USD 10 billion by 2030, reflecting a 4.5% CAGR. Major Philippe also benefits from the global expansion of rum beyond traditional Caribbean origins. Today’s consumers increasingly seek authentic stories that showcase the unique heritage of exotic destinations like Mauritius.

The Major Philippe collection will target premium spirits markets across Europe, Africa, and Asia, focusing on luxury hospitality sectors.
