Melon Mobile, Africa’s first truly digital telco, has launched a groundbreaking campaign inviting all South Africans to experience their fully customisable and super flexible mobile network — for free. This is the first time a mobile company in SA has allowed customers to sign up with the option to later opt out, putting the power of experience in the hands of those it belongs to, the customer.

In a move that challenges the traditional business model, Melon Mobile is offering a 14-day free trial with 5GB Data plus unlimited Calls & Texts, allowing consumers to take their service for a test drive with no pressure or obligation.

Calvin Collett, Founder and CEO of Melon Mobile, says, “Mobile offerings have not really evolved at the same pace as technology. We think that needs to change, because the world around us has changed. We believe in our offering so much that we’re asking all South Africans to put us to the test. We want everyone to experience the freedom, control, and value that our digital journey offers, without any constraints of physical stores.”

After the 14-day trial period, users will automatically be placed on the 5GB Unlimited Plan for R199 per month unless they choose to change plans or opt out before the trial period ends. Melon has always put the customer first, with real time agents behind WhatsApp or our call centres, helping them activate their SIMS to guiding them through Unlimited Plan options to assisting with their porting process. Resulting in an unrivalled customer service rating of 4.5 star + on the most prominent review platforms.

“This is not the last time we are going to shake things up,” said Collett.

Melon Mobile continues to lead digital innovation in South Africa’s mobile services sector with in-app features such as eSIM and Family Plans. These offerings solidify their commitment to moving away from traditional in-store retail, providing consumers with a modern, flexible, and entirely digital mobile experience.

Collett adds, “eSIM is another step towards a truly digital mobile company. Our customers now have the choice to use our service over eSIM or physical SIM, or even have an eSIM as a secondary SIM to take advantage of our competitive Data & Voice prices, especially when they are locked into long-term contracts they can’t get out of.”

Melon Mobile’s entrance into the consumer market has redefined the mobile experience with a customer-centric approach, bringing control, flexibility, and customisation to South African businesses and consumers alike. This campaign underscores their belief in the power and reliability of their network, challenging millions of South Africans to break free from their current networks and experience the Melon Mobile difference for themselves.
