Innate in each human soul is the humanitarian desire to help others and make the world a better place. Children are our future and every child deserves a future. South Africa’s top stationery retailer, PNA, has recognized this responsibility. For the fifth year running it aims, with its customers, to raise R1 million for CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa) through the sale of Flip Flop Day stickers.  Work or school shoes get replaced by their summer sandals on 23 February 2024. For just R10, a sticker purchased from any PNA nationwide supports this initiative to assist teens and children fighting cancer.”

Chantelle Fritz, PNA Marketing and PR manager says “Children’s charities are a legitimate and positive way for each one of us to make an impact on the world around us. We are committed to provide ways for our business and our customers to touch the lives of vulnerable children in our country. Once again, we are a proud partner of the CHOC Flip Flop Day initiative. All the money raised from the campaign enables CHOC to continue preserving lives of our youth through the early detection of cancer and all-encompassing assistance initiatives for children and their families impacted by cancer.”

Almost 400 000 children are diagnosed annually, and South Africa accounts for almost 1500 of this global number. Many children with cancer in low-and-middle-income countries are either not diagnosed on time or referred too late for curative care. The most common types of childhood cancers include leukaemia, lymphoma, brain, kidney and eye tumours.

One of the contributing factors for this, is a lack of awareness and knowledge of the early warning signs.

Fritz continues, “CHOC received R1m last year from the Flip Flop Day sticker sales at our PNA stores, and we aim to surpass this amount this year by challenging our customers, schools and corporates to assist in reaching this goal. It’s so simple to support this cause.  You can get your Flip Flop Day sticker for R10 at your nearest PNA store. Let’s walk this journey of compassion together in our flip flops and assist the remarkable organisation to give these children a brighter future!”

Flip Flop Day is on Friday, 23rd February 2024, and stickers can be purchased for R10 at select locations.
