There is something powerful about putting on a pair of headphones and changing the way the world sounds.
The noise of a busy commute fades. A crowded room becomes less distracting. Music takes centre stage. A work call becomes clearer. Even an ordinary journey can feel completely different.
Sony is leaning into that everyday experience with the introduction of three wireless headphone options in South Africa: the WH-1000XM4C, WH-CH730N and WH-CH530.
Announced on 8 September 2026, the refreshed line-up spans premium, mid-range and entry-level listening. Each model is designed with a different kind of listener in mind, from frequent travellers and music enthusiasts to students, commuters and first-time wireless headphone buyers.

The WH-1000XM4C Brings a Familiar Favourite Back Into Focus
At the premium end of the line-up is the WH-1000XM4C, a new addition based on Sony’s popular WH-1000XM4.
The model carries forward the features that helped establish the WH-1000XM4 as one of the celebrated headphones in Sony’s 1000X Series. That includes its legendary noise cancellation, premium sound performance and timeless over-ear design.
However, Sony has given the WH-1000XM4C a fresh listening identity.
The headphones feature updated sound tuning designed to match the latest music trends, alongside personalised sound settings through a 10-band equalizer.
That combination gives listeners more room to shape their audio experience around their own preferences.
The WH-1000XM4C is also designed with everyday movement in mind. Its lightweight, foldable construction makes it suitable for travelling and commuting, while the over-ear design focuses on comfort during extended listening.
Noise cancellation is central to the experience.
Sony says the 1000X Series technology helps dull everyday sounds such as crowds, travel noise and city chatter, making the WH-1000XM4C particularly suited to frequent travellers, commuters, remote workers, music enthusiasts and students seeking more distraction-free listening.
And then there is the colour.
The WH-1000XM4C will be available in Lavender, Black and Platinum Silver, giving users three options to match their personal preferences.
The WH-CH730N Takes Noise Cancellation Into the Everyday
Not everyone needs a flagship pair of headphones.
That is where the WH-CH730N enters the picture.
Sony describes the WH-CH730N as an everyday wireless noise-cancelling headphone that combines sound quality, effective noise cancellation and versatility at a more accessible price point.
It has been designed for commuters, hybrid workers, students and casual music listeners.
The new model also brings several practical improvements.
Its updated design is lightweight and foldable, making it easier to carry. Sony has also improved call quality and extended battery life compared with the predecessor model.
For listeners who spend hours moving between music, meetings and calls, those changes could make a meaningful difference.
The WH-CH730N uses Dual Noise Sensor technology for noise cancellation and features a lightweight over-ear design aimed at all-day comfort.
Battery life is another standout feature.
With noise cancellation switched on, the headphones offer up to 50 hours of battery life. When time is short, a three-minute quick charge can provide up to one hour of listening playback.
The model also gives users control over their sound through customisable audio settings.
Calls receive particular attention too.
Sony’s Precise Voice Pickup Technology combines beamforming microphones, optimised microphone placement and AI-powered noise reduction to help deliver clearer call quality, including in noisy environments.
Connectivity is designed to be just as practical.
The WH-CH730N supports LE Audio, Multipoint connection, Fast Pair and Swift Pair, making it easier to connect and move between compatible devices.
And for those who like their technology to have some personality, Sony is offering the headphones in Black, White, Pink, Beige and Blue.

The WH-CH530 Makes Wireless Listening More Playful
At the entry level, Sony is introducing the WH-CH530.
The proposition is straightforward: dependable wireless audio, lightweight comfort, long battery life and accessible everyday listening.
The WH-CH530 is aimed at consumers looking for their first wireless headphones, as well as people who want an easy option for online learning, meetings, streaming and everyday music.
One of its biggest visual talking points is colour.
Sony is offering the WH-CH530 in six colours: Cobalt, Coral, Mint, Pink, White and Black.
The compact on-ear headphones are lightweight and feature a soft head cushion designed to provide lasting comfort during extended wear.
Sound can also be customised through EQ settings, while the headphones offer up to 55 hours of playback.
Need a quick boost?
A three-minute charge can provide up to 1.5 hours of playback.
The WH-CH530 also introduces features designed with everyday communication and listening in mind. AI noise reduction helps provide clearer hands-free calls, while an adjustable five-step maximum volume control offers a way to manage listening levels.
Operation is kept simple through intuitive button controls and a built-in voice assistant.
The headphones also support Multipoint connection, Fast Pair, Swift Pair and LE Audio compatibility.
Three Headphones, Three Listening Lifestyles
What makes this announcement interesting is not simply the arrival of three headphones.
It is the way Sony is creating a clearer progression across its wireless portfolio.
The WH-1000XM4C sits at the premium end, bringing the recognised 1000X Series noise cancellation and sound performance of the WH-1000XM4 into a refreshed model with updated tuning and new colours.
The WH-CH730N brings noise cancellation, improved calls, longer battery life and a foldable design into a more accessible everyday option.
Then there is the WH-CH530, which focuses on lightweight comfort, dependable wireless listening, extended battery life and playful colour choices.
Together, the three models give consumers different ways to enter or move through Sony’s wireless headphone range.
Fumihiro Zaima, General Manager from the SEA Marketing Department, APMEA Division, Sony Corporation, says the WH-1000XM4C reflects continued consumer interest in a model recognised for its combination of noise cancellation, sound quality and comfort.
He also positioned the new headphones alongside Sony’s recently announced 1000X THE COLLEXION and the WH-1000XM6, describing the wider range as a progression of wireless headphone options designed to serve different customer needs and budgets.
South Africa Gets the New Line-Up
For South African consumers, the three models are scheduled to arrive in different colour options.
The WH-1000XM4C will be available in Black, Platinum Silver and Lavender.
The WH-CH730N will come in Black, White, Pink, Beige and Blue.
The WH-CH530 will be available in Black, Cobalt, White, Pink, Coral and Mint.
Sony’s press release states that all three models will become available in South Africa from dates to be announced in 2026.
That means the choice is no longer simply about buying a pair of headphones.
It is about choosing how you want to listen.
For the traveller, the appeal may be noise cancellation and a foldable design. For the hybrid worker, clear calls and Multipoint connectivity could matter more. For a student, battery life and comfort may take priority. And for someone buying their first wireless headphones, simplicity and accessibility may be the deciding factors.
Sony’s latest refresh recognises those differences.
From the premium WH-1000XM4C, through the versatile WH-CH730N, to the colourful WH-CH530, the message is clear: wireless listening does not have to look, sound or feel the same for everyone.
