Business travellers and adventure seekers alike can immerse themselves in an exciting world of luxury travel, thanks to the partnership between the Sun International hospitality group and the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA).

GHA represents the world’s largest alliance of independent luxury hotel brands, with a selection of 40 premium hospitality brands and boasting 800 hotels in 100 countries.

Worldwide membership grew to 25 million in 2023.

Sun International joined the programme in 2022, expanding the choice of hotels across the African continent to 57 hotels with 7 364 rooms. Since 2019, the programme experienced a 79% hike in African membership.

Members who sign up to the loyalty programme are eligible to earn instant globally accepted rewards and digital ‘DISCOVERY dollars’ that can be redeemed at any alliance member hotel, anywhere in the world.

One DISCOVERY Dollar (D$) equals the value of one US-Dollar. Members earn and redeem D$ by staying at any hotel in the global alliance, whether it is in South Africa or abroad. Membership to Sun GHA is free, and members are recognised equally at any of the partner hotels.

While visiting a GHA hotel, members can spend their D$ on everything from rooms to dining, spa, golf and exclusive experiences. There are countless ways for them to spend their D$. They can save up for a dream getaway, they can treat themselves to a luxurious room upgrade, splash out on a vintage bottle  of wine at dinner, book a full spa treatment, or they can explore their destination with a curated experience unique to that hotel.

The loyalty programme continually expands on experiences for members.

“In 2023 we marked many milestones, from introducing a cruise component through our partnership with Regent Seven Seas Cruises, to helping travellers identify hotels committed to sustainability best practices with the introduction of our Green Collection, all while enriching our hotel portfolio with new destinations and an even wider range of hotel options, which has boosted loyalty to record levels,” says GHA CEO Chris Hartley.

Member benefits

An immediate benefit for all members is a 10% discount on the best available rates at all Sun International and GHA partner hotels, regardless of the membership tier. On check in, members on the lowest tier can get a further 4% back on their stay, rising to 7% for the highest tier along with additional benefits such as room upgrades and early check-in or late check-out.

Membership is registered in an individual’s name and they can also look forward to unique experiences at the different hotels that can only be accessed by members.
