Some of Afrikaans’ funniest actors and comedians – Bennie Fourie, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Marion Holm, Mandri Sutherland and Keeno-Lee Hector – are part of a new sitcom, Taktiek, that is making its debut on kykNET on Monday, 2 October at 20:00.

Taktiek is produced by Nagvlug Films, the production company that was responsible for the mulit-awardwinning sitcom Hotel.  For this years SAFTA’s, Hotel received an amazing 13 nomintations in the comedy categorie.

Taktiek is set in a small town in South Africa called Schusterton. And just like any town in the country, there is a security company that looks after the people living there. There are only two problems: Schusterton is the safest town in South Africa with not much going on and the big boss of the security company Taktiek has been arrested and sent to jail.

“The idea came from the need to make a cop show,” says Bennie Fourie who is nog only seen in the role of Goose, but is also one of the writers and directors. “In South Africa there are a lot of rules and regulations about portraying cops and the nearest we could come, was a show about a security company, but this one is in the safest town in the country. That gave us a lot of space to play and have fun.

The same writers that wrote Hotel, wrote Taktiek. “With me one the team is Ryan Metcalfe, writing all the way from Australia, as well as Beer Adriaanse – also the co-director – and Stiaan Smith who helped with the concept and wrote one of the episodes. It took us about a year to write the series, but with our close connection to each other, it was really fun.”

Why Schusterton?

“When we had to decide on a name for our fictional town, we decided to pay homage to Leon Schuster who to many of us are a comic hero, especially when we were younger,” says Bennie.

Who is who in the series? Bennie is Goose. His family emigrated to New Zeeland, but he stayed to make the country a safer place for them to return to. He is scared of nothing, except emotions.

Schalk Bezuidenhout is Attie, and Mandri Sutherland is his twin sister, Mignon. Attie does the IT at Taktiek, but dreams of becoming a security guard. Mignon is in charge of the incoming calls, if she can just do it a little faster …

Deon Lotz is Jorrie, the boss that was sent to jail, and Marion Holm is Karen, his ex-wife that loves money more than anything in the world. Their daughter Lise (Leché Joubert) is left by her rich fiancé Arend (Ludwid Binge) because he can’t cope with her family’s scandals.

Keeno-Lee Hector is Willy Brown, Goose’s best friend and also a security guard. He is in love with Bronwyn (Melissa de Vries) that works at a local pub. James Borthwick is Venter, an ex-soldier that should have retired a long time ago, but must work as a securiy guard to keep bread on the table.

Donnalee Roberts, Leandie du Randt, Devonecia Swartz, Antoinette Kellermann and André Weideman can be seen in guest roles in the series.

Taktiek starts on 2 October at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and will also be available on Catch Up and DStv Stream.
