Have you ever wondered how the four cygnets keep such perfect time as they perform the much loved ‘Dance of the Cygnets’ during the second act of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake? What about all the emotions during the Black Swan pas de deux, considered by many to be the most famous dance of the ballet for both its technical difficulty and its dramatic cohesion, as it is the moment when Siegfried falls for Odile, believing her to be Odette.
Ballet fans across the country will soon have the opportunity to appreciate the technique, dexterity and mastery of the dancers in detail, when one of the world’s most beloved ballets Swan Lake is released in IMAX at Ster-Kinekor for a limited release. The ballet will be screened in IMAX for a truly immersive cinema experience on 08 and 09 November at 19:30 and on 10 November at 15:15, with a show in select 2D cinemas at 14:30 on 10 November. The duration of the performance is 145 minutes.
For the very first time, admirers of this beautiful art form can enjoy this ballet close up on the giant IMAX screen, with a front-row seat for this never before seen nor heard immersive cinema experience! Filmed for IMAX® at Paris Opera under the direction of Isabelle Julien this year, the cast includes Sae Eun Park dancing Odette/Odile, Paul Marque as the handsome Prince Siegfried and Pablo Legasa as Rothbart, together with the Paris Opera Corps de Ballet.
During his birthday celebrations, Prince Siegfried must choose a bride. Trying to escape reality, he dreams of a perfect love. His tutor tries to bring him down to Earth and reminds him of his duties. During a dreamlike getaway, the prince meets Odette, a princess who has been transformed into a swan by the powerful sorcerer Rothbart. Only true love can break the spell. Captivated, Siegfried promises Odette he’ll save her and invites her to his party. To trap the prince, the sorcerer sends his daughter Odile, disguised as Odette, to seduce him.
