The Beauty Queen of Leenane is currently taking Theatre on The Square, Sandton by storm and playing to astounding critical acclaim!

With just two weeks left of the show, the producers are proud to announce the addition of an extra performance on Tuesday 25th October 2022 at 8pm which will be followed by a Question-and-Answer session immediately after the performance with Director Charmaine Weir-Smith and the cast of Jennifer Steyn, Julie-Anne McDowell, Bryan Hiles and Sven Ruygrok.

The production opened earlier in October and must close with its final Johannesburg performance on Saturday 29 October 2022.

Audience and Critic responses alike have been overwhelming, with arts-journalist Robyn Sassen saying: “ … this is a hefty chunk of utter magic … magnificent and biting foray … beautifully crafted and extraordinarily well performed work … this is the definition of universally fine drama. Do not miss it. Not on any account”.

Arja Salafranca commented: “ … this is gripping theatre, capturing you from the moment it begins and never letting go … it’s rare that a play stays with you for days after watching it”.

Adrian Poulsen added that it is: “ … a rare privilege to get to enjoy theatre of this calibre” with Chris Thurman writing in the Business Day offering: “ … (this is) exciting theatre against all odds … our immersion continues with remarkable performances by Jennifer Steyn, Julie-Anne McDowell, Bryan Hiles and Sven Ruygrok …”.

A.J Opperman writing for Netwerk24 and Die Beeld wrote: “ … ‘n Mens sits in ongeloof oor wat jy aanskou … Steyn, McDowell skitter”.

And Leon van Nierop writing his review for Rapport added: “ … Jy sal ver moet soek om meer opwindende teater in Johannesburg te sien as hierdie briljante stuk dear Martin McDonagh …”.

Producer Daniel Galloway: “ … we have truly been overwhelmed by the public response to our production. One that has been in planning since early 2020 when the onset of the Pandemic forced us to hold and patiently wait for a time to return to our stages to tell important stories. Stories which are challenging and offer reflection and – as it turns out, happily, a wonderful night out in a beautiful and special theatre space”.

Audiences attending the added performance on Tuesday 25th October at 8pm will be treated to a Q&A after the show, giving those in attendance the unique opportunity to hear first-hand, the workings behind the scenes from director Charmaine Weir-Smith and her cast and how they went about creating the powerful magic that is currently on stage.

All will be available to answer any questions posed by the audience about The Beauty Queen of Leenane and all that it entails to bring these characters to life. There will be no additional charge for this Q&A, and bookings are as per normal. The production must close on Saturday 29th October and bookings are via Computicket
