From Underberg to the World Stage: Treverton College Paddlers Set Their Sights on Poland

In a story that captures the spirit of determination, discipline, and youthful ambition, two rising stars from Treverton College are preparing to take on the world.

Jayden Davis and David Dent have officially been selected to represent South Africa at the upcoming World Championships for kayak cross and slalom, set to take place in Krakow during the July school holidays. Their selection marks a defining moment not only in their sporting journeys, but also for South African school-level paddling on the global stage.

A Journey Forged in Competition

Earlier this year, the duo competed at the Africa Championships for kayak cross and slalom, held in Underberg over two competitive weekends. It was here—amid challenging waters and fierce continental competition—that their talent truly came to the fore.

Through a series of outstanding performances, both athletes demonstrated the skill, resilience, and composure required to compete at the highest level. Their efforts did not go unnoticed.

Selection to the national team followed, placing them among just four under-18 paddlers chosen to represent South Africa at the prestigious global event.

Preparing for the Global Arena

The upcoming World Championships will see the Treverton pair step onto an international stage where the world’s best young paddlers converge. But their journey to Poland will not be limited to competition alone.

Plans are already in place for additional training opportunities and participation in further events along the European circuit—an invaluable chance to gain exposure to elite-level racing conditions and refine their performance against top-tier international competitors.

This extended campaign reflects a broader strategy: not just to compete, but to grow, adapt, and return stronger.

More Than a Sport, A Life Philosophy

At Treverton College, the ethos “Education is an Adventure” is more than a slogan—it is a lived experience. The achievements of Davis and Dent embody this philosophy, demonstrating how academic environments can nurture not only intellectual growth, but also excellence in sport and character.

Their journey from the rivers of Underberg to the waters of Krakow is a testament to what happens when talent meets opportunity, and when passion is supported by purpose.

A Nation Behind Them

As they prepare to wear the national colours, Jayden Davis and David Dent carry with them more than just personal ambition. They represent a generation of South African athletes stepping confidently onto the world stage—driven, prepared, and ready to compete.

Their story is still being written. But one thing is certain: the next chapter unfolds in Poland.

And the world will be watching.
