Port Edward, South Africa — As autumn settles along the Eastern Cape coastline, Wild Coast Sun is turning up the heat with a packed May lineup that blends tradition, music, and high-energy entertainment into one seamless coastal escape.

From competitive card tables to live concert stages, May 2026 at Wild Coast Sun is not just a calendar of events — it’s an invitation to experience connection, culture, and celebration in one of South Africa’s most iconic resort destinations.

A Cultural Classic Returns: Thunee Tournament

Kicking off the month on Saturday, 2 May 2026, the annual Thunee Tournament brings together tradition, strategy, and community spirit at the Amadiba Conference Centre.

Thunee — a trick-taking card game rooted in Durban’s Indian community and believed to have origins linked to early indentured Indian labourers — remains a cherished pastime across generations. Its legacy stretches beyond South Africa, with variations played in India and Mauritius.

Each year, around 200 players from KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg gather to compete, and 2026 raises the stakes with over R50,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.

With its blend of heritage and competition, the tournament is more than a game — it’s a celebration of identity and shared history.

Event Details:

  • Date: Saturday, 2 May 2026
  • Time: 10h00 until late
  • Cost: R250 per team
  • Venue: Amadiba Conference Centre, Wild Coast Sun
