Emperors Palace Unveils Africa’s First Dedicated Chinese Luxury Baccarat Lounge

In a city shaped by movement, commerce and global connection, a new chapter in African luxury hospitality has arrived. Peermont Group has officially unveiled the Jade Casino at Emperors Palace — Africa’s first dedicated Chinese luxury Baccarat lounge — introducing a culturally immersive gaming and hospitality experience unlike anything previously seen on the continent.

Positioned just minutes from OR Tambo International Airport, the Jade Casino is more than a gaming floor. It is a deliberate investment into world-class Chinese luxury hospitality, designed to serve South Africa’s established Chinese community and the growing number of Chinese business travellers and tourists moving through Johannesburg each year.

The launch signals a major evolution for premium gaming in Africa, bringing together architectural storytelling, high-end gaming, cultural authenticity and hospitality under one roof.

A New Era of Luxury Gaming in Africa

Luxury gaming has evolved globally. Today’s high-end players expect far more than table games and exclusivity. They seek atmosphere, identity, cultural resonance and curated experiences that feel deeply intentional.

That philosophy is central to the Jade Casino.

The new space has been conceived as a permanent, 24-hour luxury destination inspired by authentic Chinese design language and hospitality traditions. From the handcrafted moon gate entrance and bamboo ceiling installations to the koi projections, intricate lattice screens and private gaming salons, every element has been created with cultural precision rather than decorative imitation.

According to Sikhulile Dlamini, Tables Manager at Emperors Palace, the project was shaped through years of engagement with the casino’s Chinese patrons.

“The Jade Casino is personal to me. I have spent years building relationships with our Chinese patrons, understanding what matters to them — the culture, the ritual, the level of service they expect. This room is our way of honouring that. It is not just a casino floor; it is a destination experience designed for guests who know what world-class looks like.”

The result is a gaming environment benchmarked against some of the world’s most prestigious Chinese gaming destinations.

Inside the Jade Casino Experience

The Jade Casino introduces a premium gaming offering designed specifically for high-end Baccarat players and luxury hospitality guests.

The venue features seven Baccarat tables — four positioned on the main floor and three inside enclosed private gaming rooms — alongside two American Roulette tables and a dedicated smoking Privé area for select guests.

Beyond gaming, the experience extends into hospitality through the Dragon Bar and Dragon Bowl, delivering authentic Chinese-inspired food, beverage and lounge experiences within the casino environment itself.

Unlike temporary activations or themed events, the Jade Casino is a permanent fixture within Emperors Palace, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Its proximity to OR Tambo International Airport also positions it strategically for international tourism and business travel, particularly as economic and cultural ties between China and South Africa continue to deepen.

Why This Matters Beyond Gaming

The opening of the Jade Casino reflects broader shifts happening within global tourism, hospitality and African economic connectivity.

China remains one of South Africa’s most important trading partners, while Gauteng continues to serve as a critical gateway into the continent for international commerce and travel.

As more Chinese business travellers and tourists enter African markets, demand is growing for hospitality experiences that feel familiar, culturally respectful and globally competitive.

The Jade Casino responds directly to that demand.

“We are positioned at the gateway to Africa — minutes from OR Tambo, at the heart of a city that is increasingly connected to China through business, tourism and culture,” said Dlamini. “The Jade Casino is a signal to every Chinese visitor arriving in Johannesburg that there is a world-class experience waiting for them here.”

But the significance extends beyond tourism.

The project also contributes to employment creation across hospitality, gaming, maintenance, food service and entertainment while strengthening the broader Emperors Palace resort ecosystem. Guests visiting the Jade Casino are also expected to drive activity across hotels, restaurants, live entertainment offerings and tourism services connected to the resort.

The Rise of Baccarat as Global Luxury Gaming Evolves

Globally, Baccarat has emerged as one of the most important games within premium gaming environments, particularly among high-net-worth players seeking privacy, prestige and personalised service.

The Jade Casino has been designed to meet that demand with table limits ranging from R200 to R300 000, private gaming rooms and curated service environments that rival leading international luxury casinos.

Yet what separates the space from conventional gaming venues is its emphasis on cultural immersion.

Chinese tea ceremonies, curated entertainment, visual storytelling and architectural symbolism are not presented as novelty features, but as integral parts of the overall experience.

This reflects a wider global movement within hospitality where cultural authenticity increasingly defines premium experiences.

A Strategic Investment in African Luxury Hospitality

The launch of the Jade Casino represents more than a casino expansion. It marks a strategic repositioning of Johannesburg as a destination capable of delivering globally competitive luxury experiences tailored to international audiences.

For Emperors Palace and Peermont Group, the investment demonstrates confidence in the future of premium African hospitality and tourism.

“With the Jade Casino, we have created something we are genuinely proud of,” Dlamini added. “The passion we have for this community, the opportunity we identified, and our commitment to personalised world-class service have come together in a room that will drive sustainable growth — for our business, for gaming in South Africa, and for the guests who deserve this experience.”

At a time when Africa’s tourism and hospitality industries are increasingly competing on a global stage, the Jade Casino stands as a bold statement that world-class luxury experiences can be built on the continent — and built with cultural depth at their core.

For Johannesburg, the cards have officially been dealt on a new era of premium gaming.
