South Africa’s creator economy is no longer asking for a seat at the table. It is helping redefine the table itself.
That evolution takes centre stage as the 2026 Content Creator Awards unveil this year’s nominees while welcoming Samsung Galaxy as the new headline sponsor, marking a significant new chapter for an awards platform that has grown alongside the country’s rapidly evolving creator industry.
Launched in 2022, the Content Creator Awards began at a time when creators were still fighting to have content creation recognised as a legitimate career. Four years later, the landscape looks very different.
Creators are now building businesses, influencing culture, driving commerce and shaping how South Africans discover brands, entertainment and ideas.
And this year, the awards are raising the bar once again.
From proving the industry exists to defining excellence
The evolution of the awards reflects the evolution of the creator economy itself.
“As the creator economy has evolved, so have the awards,” said Manuela Dias de Deus, Founder of the Awards and Founder of One-eyed Jack.
She explained that the early editions celebrated pioneers who were demonstrating that content creation could become a viable career. Today, the focus has shifted towards recognising creators who are setting benchmarks across marketing, entertainment and entrepreneurship.
The 2026 edition features 20 categories, with entry criteria refined to better reflect the modern creator landscape.
The judging criteria have also been developed in collaboration with the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) South Africa, with the aim of strengthening consistency, credibility and industry alignment.
The result is an awards programme that is not simply celebrating popularity. It is recognising the increasingly sophisticated role creators play within South Africa’s cultural and commercial ecosystem.
Samsung Galaxy steps into the spotlight
The announcement of Samsung Galaxy as headline sponsor adds another layer of significance to this year’s awards.
For Samsung, the partnership reflects the growing influence of creators and the technology they use to bring their ideas to audiences.
“We’re incredibly proud to partner with the Content Creator Awards,” said Rae Hargreaves, Head of Marketing: Mobile eXperience at Samsung South Africa.
“Creators are shaping culture, influencing purchasing decisions and redefining storytelling every single day.”
The partnership also introduces a new opportunity for creators through the #CapturedWithGalaxy Award.
The category remains open for entries and is designed to recognise exceptional content captured on any Samsung Galaxy device.
The winner will receive a Content Creator Award trophy and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 valued at approximately R40,999.
Entries close on 20 September 2026.
