Gucci has unveiled its new store at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, introducing a renewed environment shaped by architecture, materials and design.
The opening continues Gucci’s longstanding relationship with the landmark destination. The House first established its presence at the V&A Waterfront in 2008, when its original store opened at the Cape Town location.
Now, the new space offers a contemporary expression of Gucci while building on that history.
Designed as a series of distinct yet connected spaces, the store creates an immersive journey through the House’s collections. Each area forms part of a cohesive visual language, combining architectural precision with a more residential sense of warmth.
A New Gucci Experience in Cape Town
The new store brings together an extensive selection of Gucci collections.
Clients can explore women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, small leather goods, jewellery, watches, eyewear, silk accessories and fragrances.
The environment draws on Gucci’s contemporary store design language. Open, luminous areas lead into more intimate spaces, creating a sense of movement and discovery throughout the store.
Custom display elements and curated furnishings are integrated into the environment, giving clients different visual moments as they move through the space.
The result is an interior designed not simply to display collections, but to create a cohesive experience around them.
Where Architecture Meets Warmth
Materiality plays a defining role in the new store.
A stone façade gives the exterior a distinctive architectural presence. Inside, stone continues through a more nuanced palette, balanced by the warmth of teak and walnut.
Contrasting materials add further depth.
Brushed stainless steel, bronze and mirrored surfaces introduce sharper accents, while leather and fabrics soften the overall composition.
This balance between hard architectural elements and warmer materials reinforces the store’s residential character.
Integrated lighting completes the environment.
Rather than simply illuminating the space, it accentuates the natural grain and texture of the materials while highlighting the collections on display.
The combination creates depth and rhythm as clients move through the store.
Gucci’s Continued Cape Town Presence
The new V&A Waterfront store represents an evolution of Gucci’s presence in Cape Town rather than a first arrival.
Since opening its first store at the destination in 2008, the House has maintained a presence within one of the city’s most prominent luxury retail environments.
The new space builds on that history with a contemporary setting designed around Gucci’s evolving aesthetic.
For Cape Town, it adds another expression of the city’s luxury retail landscape. For Gucci, it marks a renewed chapter at a location where the House has been present for nearly two decades.
