Philip Morris South Africa Expands ZYN Range with Bold New Flavours and Strengths

Philip Morris South Africa (PMSA) has taken another step toward its vision of a smoke-free future with the launch of new ZYN nicotine pouch variants. The expanded range introduces three refreshing flavours — Apple Mint, Spearmint, and Citrus — along with two new nicotine strengths designed to give adult nicotine users more choice than ever before.

The new 1.5 mg “X-Low” variant caters to adult tobacco or nicotine users who are new to nicotine pouches or prefer a lighter experience. On the other end of the spectrum, the new 11 mg option is tailored for adult users familiar with nicotine pouches and looking for a stronger alternative. Together, these additions broaden ZYN’s portfolio, ensuring that there is now a flavour and strength for a wider range of adult nicotine consumers in South Africa.

A Smoke-Free Alternative for Adult Users

The launch builds on ZYN’s growing reputation for innovation and quality. Jonathan Kwak, Smoke-Free Products Director at PMSA, emphasized the company’s goal of offering adult nicotine users better choices:

“With these new variants and our latest nicotine strength options of 1.5 mg and 11 mg, we are not just expanding our portfolio—we are giving our consumers more ways to personalise their experience, enjoy ZYN in their own way, and completely switch to a better alternative to smoking.”

The immersive launch events in Cape Town and Johannesburg gave attendees the opportunity to experience the new flavours through interactive tastings and sensory activations. Each environment was curated to reflect the distinct character of the Apple Mint, Spearmint, and Citrus variants, providing a hands-on introduction to the innovation behind ZYN.

Meeting South Africa’s Changing Needs

As South Africa considers new legislation around tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery systems, harm reduction alternatives like ZYN are becoming increasingly relevant. While the long-term research on non-combustible products continues, PMSA highlights that nicotine pouches are a better alternative to continued smoking for adults who would otherwise smoke.

Kwak reiterated the broader mission:

“This is more than just a variant launch. It’s a continuation of our vision to bring an end to cigarettes, by offering a wider range of smoke-free alternatives for adult smokers who would otherwise smoke, to switch to.”

A Milestone in the Smoke-Free Journey

By introducing new flavours and nicotine strengths, PMSA is working to accelerate its strategy of switching adult smokers to smoke-free products. This launch not only diversifies ZYN’s portfolio but also reinforces the company’s commitment to harm reduction and innovation in South Africa.

ZYN products are intended for adult nicotine users only. PMSA emphasizes that the best option for health remains quitting tobacco and nicotine products altogether. However, for those who do not quit, ZYN offers a better alternative to continued smoking.
