EXCLUSIVE BOOKS proudly presents DIARY OF A WIMPY KID – THE MUSICAL, a high-energy, laugh-out-loud adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s beloved books which has sold 290 million copies to date.

“The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the most popular series for middle grade readers. The19th instalment released over Christmas, Hot Mess, shot the lights out- one of the top five bestsellers for the month of December. Exclusive Books is delighted to be a part of bringing the much-loved books to real life in this musical. We hope this live-stage version will tempt new readers to give the series a try, but also offer the existing Wimpy Kid fans something extra special to augment their reading experience.” says Batya Bricker – GM Marketing for Exclusive Books.

Co-produced by Daphne Kuhn and Vicky Friedman, directed by Vicky Friedman, with musical direction by Dale Ray and Lighting and Set Design by Wilhelm Disbergen this larger-than-life production is set to dazzle audiences with catchy songs, hilarious antics, and a heartwarming story about friendship, self-esteem, and survival in middle school.

Theatre owner and Producer Daphne Kuhn adds, “Theatre on the Square is very proud to be partnering with Exclusive Books on this educational, entertaining and synergous project. Our partnership reinforces our objectives for youth development and literacy through the medium of reading and theatre. What finer project could there be than this fabulous international hit musical. Boasting two casts of young people, together with seasoned professionals, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the musical, is based on the world’s best-selling children’s book series and will be a first for South Africa!”

Follow Greg Heffley, the lovable underdog, as he attempts to navigate the chaotic world of middle school. From dodging the dreaded Cheese Touch to dealing with wacky classmates and trying to climb the popularity ladder, Greg’s journey is full of unexpected twists, side-splitting moments, and life lessons that both kids and adults will love.

With an incredible South African youth cast—featuring two alternating ensembles—this production is bursting with talent, energy, and fun!

Director Vicky Friedman shares,  “We can’t wait for audiences to witness the incredible talent we’ve discovered through our extensive search. This cast brings energy, heart, and pure joy to the stage—ZOO-WEE-MAMA, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience!”
