Freckle Eyewear Turns 10: A Decade of Vision, Luxury & Legacy

In a world where “community” has become a corporate catchphrase, Freckle Eyewear has quietly—and boldly—lived it. This year, the Black woman-owned South African luxury brand celebrates 10 years not just in business, but in purpose: elevating African excellence, redefining luxury retail, and opening doors for the next generation of trailblazers.

On Saturday, 28 June 2025, under golden skies and glowing city lights, an exclusive circle of partners, tastemakers, media, and loyal clients gathered for an unforgettable celebration. This wasn’t just a birthday party—it was a masterclass in legacy-building.

Born from Vision, Built for Impact

Founded by the formidable Lihle Lamola, Freckle Eyewear emerged from two unshakable beliefs: that Africa belongs in the luxury conversation, and that economic inclusion is the heart of progress. What started as a curated boutique for designer sunglasses—featuring international icons like TOM FORD, LOEWE, and CARTIER—quickly became a movement.

But behind the fashion-forward façade lies a powerful mission: to make luxury meaningful. Over the past decade, Freckle has created over 50 employment opportunities for youth, offering them not just jobs, but mentorship and growth in a highly competitive space.

“We’ve never just sold sunglasses,” says Lamola. “We sell confidence, empowerment, and experience. Our customers don’t just see the world differently—they step into it boldly.”

Resilience Woven into Every Frame

From a global pandemic to economic upheavals, Freckle Eyewear weathered every storm with grace and ingenuity. During COVID-19, while retail shutters closed around the world, Lamola doubled down on innovation—sourcing rare, runway-fresh pieces for clients and protecting her staff with empathy and intention.

Her resilience is not just personal—it’s generational.

“As a Black woman in business, I carry the legacy of those who came before me,” she says. “This milestone is a shared victory. It proves what’s possible when we choose to build—together.”

A Night to Remember: Freckle’s 10-Year Celebration

Hosted at an intimate, private venue, the 10-year celebration unfolded in pure Freckle style: refined, effortless, and unforgettable. Guests were welcomed with handcrafted Don Julio cocktails at a sunset reception, where the skyline lit up in soft golds and pinks—mirroring the glow of pride in the room.

Dinner followed—a curated fine-dining experience led by a South African culinary artist trained by a Michelin-awarded chef. Each course told a story of heritage, flavour, and artistry. Laughter and conversation flowed, photos were snapped against custom Freckle installations, and speeches reminded everyone present that this was not the end of a chapter—but the prologue to something even greater.

Looking Ahead: Africa’s Luxury Future

With a new decade in sight, Freckle Eyewear is not slowing down. Plans are underway for flagship stores, continent-wide expansion, and brand collaborations that place African style at the forefront of global luxury. From retail to mentorship, every next step will honour the brand’s founding ethos: luxury with purpose.

Final Word?
Freckle Eyewear isn’t just celebrating 10 years of fashion—it’s celebrating 10 years of vision, empowerment, and Black excellence. And if you weren’t there on June 28th, trust us—you’ll want to be there for the next 10
