Get wet and stay cool this summer holiday at Wild Coast Sun Resort on the border of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, which has a list of water sports and river activities almost as endless as its unspoilt beach.

Both guests and day visitors can enjoy myriad fun water activities from the relaxed to thrill-seeking.

The Riverside Aqua Sports & Cocktail Bar, situated on the banks of the Mtamvuna River, is ideally located to provide a range of family friendly water activities supervised by professional aquatic guides.

Adrenalin buzzing sports
For board riders who love the freedom of uncrowded spots, the river offers a vast expanse for hours of fun. Get some handy tips on the board from Deidre van Niekerk, a former professional wakeboarder before you strap into a wakeboard or a set of ski’s.

All Day Cruising until Sunset
Gently cruise up the Mtamvuna River, soaking up nature with a cool breeze against your face. A 45 minute to hour-long cruise takes you to the natural paradise of the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve.

Adrenalin-seekers can feel the wind in their hair with an adventure aboard a speedboat that cruises across the river forming border between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape provinces.

On your return, be sure to indulge in The Riverside’s famous cocktail 1883 and freshly-made items from the menu to surprise your taste buds.

Cast a line
Take your fishing rods down to the beach and cast for bronze bream, rock cod and more where the Mtamvuna River meets the ocean. Fishing permits can be obtained from your local post office or at www.dffe.gov.za

Kayak, paddle or walk on water
Take to the water in a kayak and paddle up and down the Mtamvuna River for lots of family fun. You can also book a half day or full day kayak rental and explore the Mtamvuna river 4KM up to Leopards Beach in the gorge.

Enjoy a lazy paddle up the river as a family excursion. Each paddle boat comfortably takes two adults and two children and is a safe, family friendly activity.

Find out why Stand Up Paddleboarding is one of the fastest growing water sports.  Stand on a board floating on the water and use a paddle to propel yourself forward, enjoying a fun workout from upper body training to leg work and core strength building.

Water park fun for the whole family
A coastal holiday is about making a splash and Wild Coast Sun’s popular Wild Waves Water Park boasts six rides, plus the Lazy River that snakes through the playground and a Kid’s Zone for small children.

The water park welcomes all age groups with rides and pools for adults, children and toddlers. From adrenalin junkies to moderate thrill seekers, and those that like to laze around with a book.

Wild Waves is open free to guests staying in the hotel, and at a cost to day visitors – arrive early as space is limited over the festive period.

Stroll and take in the sights
The South Coast is the ideal location for beach strolls, as its breathtakingly beautiful coastline with its vistas of Indian Ocean is renowned for unspoilt beaches. Wild Coast Sun guests can step out their sea facing rooms and straight onto the beach.

“As the summer sun shines upon us, Wild Coast Sun Resort invites families to dive into our world of adventure and relaxation,” said Henry Tshegetso Boekhouer, General Manager of Wild Coast Sun. “Whether you just want to lie on a lounger and gaze at the ocean while your kids swim in the hotel pool, or you’re seeking thrilling water sports, serene river cruises, or a fun-filled day at Wild Waves water park, we have it all. Our team is ready to make this holiday season your family’s most unforgettable one yet in our coastal paradise.”
