HONOR has officially launched its Robot Phone, a category-defining smartphone designed to blur the line between mobile technology, robotics and professional filmmaking. With a motorised gimbal, AI-powered movement and cinematic imaging technology developed with ARRI, the device is built to give creators a camera that can physically move with them.
The smartphone camera has spent years getting smarter.
Now, HONOR wants it to get more physical.
On 12 August 2026, HONOR officially launched the HONOR Robot Phone, a new flagship device that combines smartphone technology with robotics, artificial intelligence and cinematic imaging.
HONOR describes the device as the world’s first robotic smartphone with a fully integrated 4-DoF mechanical gimbal, creating a new approach to mobile filmmaking.
Instead of simply pointing a camera at the action, the Robot Phone is designed to move with it.
That is the idea behind a device that HONOR believes could change how people capture content.
A Smartphone With a Mechanical Camera Arm
At the heart of the Robot Phone is the HONOR Titanium Agile Gimbal, an ultra-compact 4-DoF mechanical system integrated directly into the smartphone.
According to HONOR, the system was developed through 60 manufacturing processes and contains more than 100 precision components, supported by more than 100 patents.
The company says it has reduced the overall system size by 65% compared with mainstream gimbals while increasing structural strength by 200%.
The numbers are impressive.
But the real difference becomes apparent when the gimbal starts moving.
The system uses a 2.6g Titanium Gimbal Motor capable of control speeds of up to 360 degrees per second.
A HONOR Super steel Flip Motor delivers a torque density of 120 N·m/L.
Together, the technologies allow the camera to move, reposition and stabilise itself while remaining integrated into a pocketable smartphone design.
This turns the phone from a passive recording device into something much closer to a compact camera operator.
HONOR and ARRI Bring Cinema Technology to a Smartphone
The Robot Phone is also the first product milestone from the Cinematic Imaging Partnership between HONOR and ARRI, the professional cinema technology company.
Rather than relying solely on smartphone filters, HONOR says the partnership brings selected elements of ARRI Image Science and professional cinema workflows into a mobile device.
The imaging system is built around a Dual 200MP Camera setup.
The main camera is a 200MP Agile Gimbal Main Camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and f/1.6 aperture.
It is paired with a 200MP Periscope Telephoto Camera featuring a 1/1.4-inch sensor and 2.7x optical zoom.
A 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera with a 122-degree field of view completes the rear camera system.
But the specifications only tell part of the story.
The 200MP Agile Gimbal Main Camera supports 10-bit ARRI LogC3 recording in ARRI CINEMA mode, giving creators a workflow designed with post-production in mind.
Built for the Edit, Not Just the Capture
For creators, shooting the footage is only the beginning.
The Robot Phone combines ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks with the HONOR H1 Image Chip.
HONOR says AI noise reduction improves video signal-to-noise ratio by 8 dB, while AI dynamic range optimisation supports up to 14 stops of dynamic range.
The video pipeline also processes noise reduction earlier in the RAW domain.
It processes data in 14-bit 4:4:4 and outputs 10-bit LogC3 and 4:2:2 video, preserving more image information for post-production.
Creators can preview ARRI Looks in real time, while footage can be moved into professional editing software such as DaVinci Resolve, where ARRI LUTs can be applied as part of the capture-to-post-production workflow.
That could make the Robot Phone particularly interesting for filmmakers, content creators and mobile-first production teams that want greater control over their footage without carrying a full cinema setup everywhere.
The Camera Can Follow You
This is where the Robot Phone’s artificial intelligence becomes more than a software feature.
The device introduces YOYO Robot Mode, powered through MagicOS.
The system combines multimodal perception, contextual understanding, gesture recognition and physical movement.
The result is designed to turn the phone into an autonomous personal camera crew.
Its camera arm supports several cinematic movement modes, including:
- Tilt Lock
- First Person View (FPV)
- FPV Vertical
- AI SpinShot
These modes are designed to make dynamic camera movements easier to capture.
Then there is AI Subject Tracking.
The system can automatically pan and tilt to keep a subject within the frame.
For someone recording a vlog, livestream or video call while moving around, that means the camera can follow them instead of forcing them to remain behind a fixed tripod.
Hands-Free Filming Gets a New Meaning
The Robot Phone also uses gesture recognition and voice interaction to reduce the need to physically touch the device.
Users can deploy the camera arm and capture shots through hands-free gesture controls.
That opens up possibilities for creators who want to film themselves while cooking, performing, exercising, travelling or moving through a scene.
HONOR is also taking the AI concept beyond photography.
Its YOYO Auto Execution feature allows the system-level AI agent to understand user intent and execute complex, multi-step tasks across supported applications and system settings.
Through an open Agent Skills interface, third-party developers can also create new experiences using the Robot Phone’s gimbal, perception and embodied-interaction capabilities.
In other words, HONOR is not positioning the Robot Phone simply as a smartphone with a moving camera.
It is positioning it as an embodied AI device.
Flagship Hardware Beneath the Robotics
The robotics and imaging features are backed by flagship hardware.
The Robot Phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, providing processing power for AI, imaging and multitasking.
HONOR has also developed a custom cooling system designed to dissipate heat during demanding workloads, including extended recording sessions.
Power comes from a 7,060mAh Next Gen HONOR Silicon-carbon Battery.
Charging support includes:
120W Wired HONOR SuperCharge
and
50W Wireless HONOR SuperCharge.
The device also features an Android-first integrated metal unibody with an R3 curved-edge transition.
On the front is a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED HONOR AI Eye Comfort Display protected by HONOR NanoCrystal Shield.
The display supports an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate and reaches a claimed peak brightness of 6,800 nits.
For extended viewing, the display also includes 4320Hz PWM dimming and other eye-comfort technologies.
From MWC to the Film Industry
The Robot Phone has already been on a global journey before reaching its commercial launch.
HONOR first showcased the device at Mobile World Congress 2026 in March.
It subsequently appeared in film-related settings, including stabilized tracking shots at Cannes Film Festival’s China Night and the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Those demonstrations helped establish the central idea behind the device: bringing more sophisticated camera movement and cinematic control into a smartphone form factor.
Now, that concept is moving from showcase to commercial rollout.
The Next Chapter of HONOR’s Cinematic Ambition
HONOR says the technologies developed through its Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI will continue to evolve.
The company also says the work will be further showcased in the upcoming HONOR Magic9 Series, with both companies continuing to refine the integrated imaging technologies and workflows through technical validation and real-world use.
That suggests the Robot Phone is not being presented as an isolated experiment.
Instead, it could represent the beginning of a broader direction for HONOR’s imaging strategy.
