Contemporary artist Diane Victor has been at the forefront of the South African and international art scene for many years. Now, an exhibition of her work, presented by Spier Arts Trust, will run at the Old Wine Cellar at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch from 18 February to 18 April 2023.

Victor explores the dark side of South African society with subtlety and complexity. From corruption and the social inequalities that affect the country, to the condition of humans and more specifically women, she implicitly questions the vulnerability of life.

Her graphic works, almost exclusively in black and white, are woven through with references to the history of art and mythology. They reveal her extraordinary mastery of printmaking and drawing techniques and her constant exploration of new media, such as ash and candle soot.

A biographical volume, produced by French publishers Mare et Martin, will be launched at the exhibition. Through a large selection of prints, drawings and smoke drawings, the book covers forty years of the virtuoso’s politically engaged career and provides a stylistic analysis of her work.

The exhibition is open to the public and entrance is free.
