Orbit Brings the Power of Connection to Nedbank rAge Nation

From intense matches to friendships that move beyond the screen, Orbit is celebrating the people, pauses and shared experiences that keep South Africa’s LAN gaming culture alive.

The match is over, but the final thirty seconds refuse to leave your mind. You replay the missed shot, question the call and wonder what might have happened if you had made a different move. Nearby, your opponents are celebrating. Your friends are already discussing a rematch, and another game is waiting.

Then comes a moment to reset.

It is this familiar rhythm of competition, connection and taking a breath between rounds that shapes Orbit’s partnership with Nedbank rAge Nation. Through its “Overthink Less. Chew Good.” platform, Orbit is encouraging gamers to pause, regroup and move forward rather than carry every moment of the previous match into the next one.

For South African teens and young adults, gaming can be about far more than what happens on a screen. It is about the friends who make up a squad, the running jokes that never get old, the victories celebrated together and the debates over who was really responsible for that last defeat.

At a local area network (LAN) event, those connections become even more tangible. Online usernames turn into familiar faces, conversations happen across rows of computers, and friendships built through headsets find a home in the same room.

From usernames to real-life friendships

High-speed home internet means gamers no longer need to gather physically to play together. Yet LAN culture continues to offer something that online matchmaking cannot entirely replicate: the experience of sharing a space with people who understand the excitement, frustration and fun of gaming.

For a Bring-Your-Own-Computer/Console (BYOC) LAN, getting there is an event in itself. Players pack their equipment, transport their setups to the venue and rebuild their battle stations. Adapters, cables and accessories come along for the journey, with the hope that no essential connection has been left behind.

It takes effort, but for many players, the reward is worth it.

A friend who has been carrying the squad online is suddenly sitting close enough to hear the bragging firsthand. A tight match draws a crowd. Someone you have only known by their username becomes the person laughing with you after the game.

For a first-time LAN attendee, even a simple invitation to join a match can make the difference between feeling like an outsider and finding a place within the community.

The weekend also creates room for the moments between competitions. Players catch up, exchange tips, meet new people and revisit the highlights of previous matches. A frustrating loss can become a shared joke, while a conversation with a teammate can help put a mistake into perspective.

That sense of belonging is part of what keeps LAN culture meaningful in an increasingly connected world.

Why the pause between rounds matters

Gaming thrives on competition, but competition comes with emotions.

A narrow defeat can leave a player demanding an immediate rematch. A hard-earned win can send an entire squad into celebration. Before a match even begins, anticipation can turn into second-guessing a strategy that seemed flawless moments earlier.

Orbit’s message recognises these familiar experiences and the value of taking a moment before moving on.

A reset does not need to be complicated. It might mean loosening your grip on the controller, taking a breath, talking through a difficult round or asking a teammate for advice. For a newcomer, it could simply be finding the confidence to ask about the rules before joining a game.

For a regular competitor, it might mean accepting that one mistake does not need to define the next match.

Under its “Overthink Less. Chew Good.” platform, Orbit positions chewing gum as a familiar cue to pause and regroup. During a LAN weekend, that moment can fit naturally into the time spent waiting for an opponent, chatting with friends or preparing for another round.

The idea is not to take the competition less seriously. It is to give players a chance to leave the previous match behind and return to the experience in front of them.

Orbit brings the competition to Nedbank rAge Nation

That community spirit will take centre stage when the Orbit BYOC LAN arrives at Nedbank rAge Nation from 27 to 29 November 2026.

Hosted on Level 8 at Fourways Mall in Johannesburg, the event will bring players together for a 56-hour gaming weekend. Attendees can bring their PCs or consoles, settle into their setups and compete against familiar friends and new rivals.

The programme will also feature daily Orbit Cups, introducing short-format competitions throughout the weekend.

These organised competitions will give LAN attendees opportunities to participate without needing to be professional esports athletes. Cash prizes will add another layer of excitement, giving friendly rivalries a little more at stake.

For some players, the weekend may be about spending time with their usual squad and enjoying their favourite games. For others, it could be an opportunity to test their skills in an organised competition for the first time.

Both have a place.

Making room for experienced competitors and newcomers helps create an environment where more people can participate, learn and enjoy the shared experience. Friends and fellow attendees can celebrate the close finishes, cheer on emerging players and discover new rivals along the way.

Orbit gum will also be available for sampling during the weekend, offering attendees an opportunity to try the product as they take breaks between games and spend time with the people around them.

More than another gaming weekend

There will be plenty to debate at Nedbank rAge Nation: who secured the winning play, who needs a rematch and who deserves the credit for carrying the team.

But the experience will extend beyond the results.

It will be about reconnecting with friends, meeting people who share the same interests and discovering that someone previously known only by a username can become a teammate sitting just a few seats away.

Through its partnership with Nedbank rAge Nation, Orbit is bringing its message of pausing, resetting and moving forward into a setting where those moments already form part of the experience.

Because the next round will always be waiting. Sometimes, the best thing a player can do before stepping back into the action is take a moment, share a laugh and reconnect with the people who make the game worth playing.
