South Africa’s comedy industry is preparing for its most anticipated celebration of the year as nominees for the 13th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards have officially been revealed.

The announcement took place at the stylish BlackBrick Hotel, where comedians, industry insiders and entertainment professionals gathered to hear which performers and creators had earned a coveted nomination.

Each year, the awards recognise the comedians who have shaped the country’s humour landscape — from sold-out theatre performances and national tours to viral digital content and groundbreaking creative work.

For the comedians waiting in the room, the announcement carried a familiar mix of anticipation and excitement: would their work over the past year earn them a place among the best in the business?

Celebrating the Talent That Keeps South Africa Laughing

The awards are powered by Savanna Premium Cider, long-time supporters of the country’s comedy industry.

According to Kayla Hendricks, the event remains one of the most important platforms for recognising local comedic talent.

“The Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards celebrate the incredible talent that keeps South Africa laughing year after year. At Savanna, we’re proud to support and champion the local comedy industry by providing a platform that recognises and elevates the voices shaping our comedy landscape. The nominees represent the very best in the business, and we’re excited to see who will ultimately walk away with a Waldo.”

The annual awards highlight just how vibrant and diverse South Africa’s comedy scene has become, with performers making waves across theatre stages, comedy festivals, digital platforms and international circuits.
