The reimagining of the iconic takealot.com box will see a limited edition, available only over the festive season, that showcases one outstandingly creative perspective of our country’s rich heritage

A nationwide call for artists, designers, and creatives of all sorts to showcase their creative take on what heritage means to them personally has resulted in one million reimagined takealot.com boxes that are only available for a limited time over the festive season.

As the country celebrated its diverse heritage in September 2022, takealot.com took it one step further with a call for South Africans from all over the country to showcase exactly what South African heritage means to them. The brand asked them to draw inspiration from the colours of our country’s flag, and combined with their own diverse culture and traditions, create a design for the takealot.com box that would take those receiving it on a colourful journey.

From thousands of entries, the most striking visual story was chosen and its creator, Tshepho Masilo, was awarded an incredible R100 000 in takealot.com vouchers, along with a R10 000 takealot.com voucher to donate to a South African charity or local Heritage Site of his choice. Masilo’s outstanding creativity has resulted in his design – a bold and dynamic mix of proudly South African images that encompass the spirit of South Africa – to be printed on one million limited edition takealot.com boxes, which will be making their way into the homes of takealot.com shoppers from all corners of the country this festive season.

“When we launched our first-ever Heritage Day Design Challenge, the objective was to give South Africans the chance to showcase their creativity inspired by our diverse cultures and rich heritage. We were overwhelmed with the entries and participation. We are a home-grown business and we are proud to showcase Masilo’s unique heritage story on our iconic takealot.com box. This is South African storytelling in its most inclusive form. ” says Julie-Anne Walsh, Chief Marketing Officer at takealot.com

For Masilo, winning the chance to share his design on the takealot.com box has been a life-changing experience. One million reimagined boxes showcasing Masilo’s winning artwork have been printed and will be delivered across the country as the brand fulfils its festive orders.
