Instead of asking audiences to simply listen to KuNgawe, the acclaimed singer-songwriter invited them into its world.
Together with Stella Artois, Zide transformed the launch of KuNgawe into a sold-out cultural experience for more than 500 attendees in the natural surrounds of Muldersdrift.
Music was only the beginning.
Performance, design, fashion, hospitality and human connection came together to create an experience designed to be seen, felt and shared.
For decades, albums have been released.
KuNgawe was lived.

A Different Way to Launch an Album
The KuNgawe Experience offered a fresh take on one of the music industry’s most familiar moments.
Rather than treating the album launch as a single performance, Zide brought the emotion and creative vision behind KuNgawe into the physical world.
Audiences experienced the album in full, with celebrated artist Manana joining Zide as a special guest performer.
Together, they brought themes of vulnerability, presence and connection into moments of collective reflection.
It was an approach that placed the audience inside the story rather than simply in front of a stage.
Thando Zide’s Rising Voice
The experience also reflected the growing creative presence of Zide.
She has been selected as Apple Music’s Up Next artist in South Africa, performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival alongside jazz maestro Nduduzo Makhathini, and appeared on the TEDxJohannesburg stage.
At The KuNgawe Experience, those achievements formed part of a bigger creative picture.
Her music became the foundation for an experience that explored how South African artists can take their work beyond sound and create deeper cultural moments around it.
When Design Became Part of the Music
The transformation continued beyond the stage.
Inspired by an Afro Riviera aesthetic, the Muldersdrift venue was reimagined through a creative collaboration with South African artist and designer Keneilwe Mothoa, co-founder of Neimil.
Mothoa and the Neimil team translated the emotional landscape of KuNgawe into the physical environment.
Architectural elements, lighting details and natural textures were carefully considered as part of the experience.
The intention was not simply to decorate a venue.
It was to create an environment that encouraged guests to slow down, disconnect from constant digital consumption and reconnect with the music and with one another.
In that space, music, creativity and conversation became part of the same story.
Turning Emotion Into an Environment
For Zide, KuNgawe has always been about more than the music itself.
“For me, KuNgawe has always been about creating space for honesty, vulnerability and connection,” said Thando Zide.
Seeing audiences move through the album rather than simply hearing it became an emotional moment for the artist.
“It reminded me that music has the power to bring people together in ways that go far beyond the stage,” she said.
That idea also shaped Mothoa’s creative approach.
“Design has the power to make people feel, and every space tells a story,” said Keneilwe Mothoa, Co-founder and Creative Director of Neimil.
For KuNgawe, the aim was to translate emotion into an environment that people could walk through, feel and remember by bringing together music, design and human connection.

Stella Artois Brings Worth More to Life
Made possible by Stella Artois, The KuNgawe Experience also brought the brand’s Worth More philosophy to life.
The partnership gave Zide’s creative vision a platform to become something audiences could experience while also innovating a traditional music industry standard.
For Vaughan Croeser, VP of Marketing at South African Breweries, the experience demonstrated the potential of bringing different creative disciplines together.
“South African creativity continues to show just how powerful cultural experiences can become when different creative disciplines come together,” said Croeser.
He described The KuNgawe Experience as an example of how music, design and community can create something meaningful, reflecting the cultural innovation that the Worth More philosophy exists to celebrate.
A New Blueprint for the Album Launch
The significance of The KuNgawe Experience extends beyond one album launch.
As audiences look for deeper and more memorable ways to engage with artists, the experience presents a different possibility for how music can be introduced to the world.
Streaming platforms remain part of how audiences discover and consume music.
But KuNgawe explored what happens when an artist creates a physical world around the music.
When sound meets design.
When performance meets connection.
When an album becomes an environment rather than simply a collection of tracks.
The KuNgawe Experience offered a fresh blueprint for the album launch — one where audiences did not just hear the music.
They were invited to live it.
