South Africa’s vibrant music scene continues to welcome exciting new voices, and one artist is making his introduction with a story rooted in identity, heritage and purpose. Rising musician Njabulo Luyanda Ngcobo, professionally known as UDoti UDemedi, is steadily building momentum following the release of his debut EP, Udoti Luba Ingcebo.
Released just two weeks ago and backed by Ziiki Media, the seven-track project combines contemporary Three Step rhythms with Zulu storytelling and spirituality, creating a sound that reflects both the artist’s upbringing and his aspirations for the future.
Rather than simply releasing music, UDoti UDemedi is using his debut project to introduce audiences to the experiences, beliefs and values that have shaped his journey.
A Debut Rooted in Identity
For UDoti UDemedi, Udoti Luba Ingcebo is more than a collection of songs—it is a personal statement.
Across seven tracks, the EP explores themes including identity, perseverance, family, friendship, love and ambition, offering listeners an honest reflection of his life experiences.
Raised in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, the artist credits his upbringing, family traditions, spirituality and strong sense of community as lasting influences on both his music and the stories he chooses to tell.
The Meaning Behind the Name
One of the most distinctive aspects of the artist’s journey is the story behind his stage name.
The name UDoti UDemedi was given to him by his grandfather and carries deep ancestral significance. Rather than focusing on its literal translation, the name represents resilience, humility and the belief that true greatness often develops beneath the surface—much like fertile soil nurturing future growth.
“My grandfather gave me this name because he believed I was destined to do great things,” says UDoti UDemedi.
“Along with my clan names, I was always encouraged to repeat them and remember where I come from. Choosing it as my stage name was my way of honouring my family while carrying that purpose with me. I want people to understand that your beginnings don’t determine your future.”
From ‘Trash to Treasures’
The EP title, Udoti Luba Ingcebo, translates to “Trash to Treasures,” carrying a message that reaches beyond financial success.
Throughout the project, wealth is presented as something much broader than material possessions. The songs explore purpose, faith, personal growth, meaningful relationships and the determination to create a better future while remaining connected to one’s roots.
The result is a body of work that celebrates resilience and reminds listeners that transformation often begins long before success becomes visible.
Music That Brings Cultures Together
Produced alongside K-Zaka, the EP showcases the creative partnership between two artists from different cultural backgrounds united by a shared passion for music.
Reflecting on the collaboration, K-Zaka says the experience demonstrated music’s ability to bring people together.
“When UDoti UDemedi and I met, we were already surrounded by people from different backgrounds. That taught us something important—we weren’t creating music as people from different cultures; we were creating as brothers from one country. Yes, our cultures are different, but we’re one nation with one sound and one purpose: to create music that people can enjoy, connect with and see themselves in. Everything happened for a reason.”
The featured artists across the EP further enrich the project by exploring themes that resonate with many young South Africans, including friendship, family, love, travel, aspiration and the pursuit of opportunity.
Backed by a Vision for Long-Term Growth
For Arun Nagar, CEO of Ziiki Media, UDoti UDemedi embodies the qualities the company seeks as it expands beyond music distribution into artist development and record label services.
“Talent is only one part of what makes an artist successful,” says Nagar.
“We’re looking for authenticity, work ethic, the ability to connect with people and that intangible X-factor. The moment UDoti explained the story behind his name, I knew his journey deserved to be heard. He carries himself with conviction, and that’s something audiences connect with.”
Nagar believes the debut EP is only the beginning.
“This EP is UDoti introducing himself to the world. We believe in building artists for long-term success, and his story reflects exactly what Ziiki Media stands for—discovering authentic talent and helping the next generation of South African artists reach new audiences while remaining true to who they are.”
A New Voice for South African Music
As the Three Step genre continues to evolve, UDoti UDemedi hopes his music will contribute to its growth while inspiring young creatives from communities similar to the one that shaped him.
With Udoti Luba Ingcebo, he introduces far more than a debut EP. He presents a story of heritage, resilience and purpose that reflects the hopes and ambitions of a new generation of South African artists.
The seven-track EP is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
