20 June: World Productivity Day – Top 5 ways to be more productive

20 June is World Productivity Day – a day dedicated to focusing on how we can improve the way we work and live, looking at ways to do things better, achieving more, and optimising the time we use when doing things.

From home to work to productivity within an organisation, there are always ways that we can improve our productivity. Here are five of them.

An organised space encourages productivity

Maintaining a tidy environment can significantly boost motivation and efficiency. Whether it’s your home or office, a neat setting promotes a sense of peace and structure crucial for performance. A tidy area not only reduces anxiety but also offers a conducive environment for creativity and efficient task management. Furthermore keeping your surroundings tidy can enhance your health by decreasing allergens, dust and germs resulting in illnesses. Individuals working remotely may find it tough to keep their workspace organised, but it’s vital for maintaining a professional mindset and creating clear boundaries between work and personal life.

With SweepSouths cleaning services you can relish in the advantages of a space that nurtures both productivity and overall well being. It’s important to have a well organised space, for boosting productivity.SweepSouth is just a click away and can assist with your cleaning needs so that you can gain back time and mental clarity to pursue your professional ambitions. SweepStars ensure that your living space or office remains immaculate allowing you to focus on what matters without the burden of household tasks.

Using music and white noise to focus

When you’re busy concentrating, whether it’s on work or working on your gratitude list, listening to calming music or white noise can help to hone the mind in on what you’re doing.

The type of music that helps you to focus differs from person to person. It could be classical music the likes of Beethoven and Mozart – this type of music is said to enhance brain activity and act as a catalyst to better focus, which leads to more holistic well-being. And when you’re feeling good, you’re more productive. Or it could be nature music or sounds – researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute discovered that employees felt more positive, were calmer, and were more productive when listening to nature music in the background, as it improved overall brain function.

White noise, on the other hand, drowns out distractions, so people are able to focus better on a task at hand.

Take an exercise break

Exercise has been proven to boost energy levels and release endorphins – our feel-good hormones – which help to reduce anxiety and stress, and consequently boost productivity. A 10-minute break in a busy day, taking a walk outside in the sunshine, breathing in the fresh air, and getting your circulation going boosts those hormones, and when you feel good, you operate better.

From a more scientific point of view, as we get older our bodies generate fewer and fewer brain cells (neurogenesis), but exercise seems to slow down this process. This naturally gives you a greater advantage in the workplace.

Streamlining your business management systems

Looking into how a business operates, there are many productivity tools available that can aid in overall organisational productivity – from strategy development and implementation, to the streamlined management of day-to-day operations, and ongoing customer engagement through automated workflows.

One such productivity tool for businesses and their workforces is integrating digital workflow management solutions into their service management through smart, efficient software, like that offered by Zuper – an enterprise mobility platform that enables organisations to manage, modernise and transform field and remote workforces This has numerous benefits, including but not limited to, the following:

  • Frees up time to deploy human skills elsewhere in the business, to grow the business and/or enhance operations and efficiency.
  • Delivers packaged data, which humans can then analyse to develop insights that can improve business operations, customer service, and customer experience.
  • Enhancing employee work experience through automating routine tasks, which allows employees time to learn, grow, and do more meaningful work.

Automating parts of a business’s operations can take over many of the manual, admin-heavy tasks that can be very time-consuming for a workforce. Furthermore, it can concurrently reduce the risk of human error where large volumes of information are being input.

CEO of Zuper, Anand Subbaraj, notes that if you add to that “a well-built mobile component, all stakeholders [in a business] are kept in the loop with real-time and automated notifications and alerts. Field techs and administration can share job notes, attach images, and leave instructions within a work order. And communication with [value chain] partners is immediate, instantaneous and automated when needed”.

Reducing mental clutter through financial organisation

Productivity is enhanced by a more organised life. This includes making sure that finances, policies and insurance documents are up to date.

Doing so reduces mental clutter and also protects businesses and individuals in the event of needing to take out savings or make insurance claims.

Luckily, pre-packaged insurance offerings, which may contain unnecessary elements, are no longer the only option. Individuals can tailor their insurance product to meet their specific needs, customising coverage, provider, benefits, and additional features. “For instance, a married couple without dependents can limit the number of authorised drivers on their vehicle, yielding substantial savings on their car insurance,” says Mishaya Chettiar, Executive Head at Everything.Insure.

“Consumers should not merely accept insurance offerings at face value. They should ask questions to comprehend the extent of coverage and tailor premiums accordingly. The power to choose the right policy ultimately lies in their hands,” adds Chettiar.

So whether you’re looking at getting more productive in your own life, or helping your employees to be more productive in the workplace, take this Productivity Day to remember that there are so many things you can do to improve your productivity – find what works best for you and your business.
