InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town: A Landmark Reborn at the Waterfront

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – In a city where the Atlantic meets the majesty of Table Mountain, a storied address has been reborn. The InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town, first inaugurated in 1997 by Nelson Mandela, has reopened after a multimillion‑dollar transformation of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. More than a hotel, it is a cultural beacon, redefining luxury for the modern traveller while honouring its legacy as one of Cape Town’s most iconic destinations.

The 306‑room property, now part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, stands at the heart of the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest working harbour. Its reimagined interiors, designed by Gina Munro of LW Design Group, frame sweeping views of Table Mountain and the ocean. Every detail tells a story: the same artisans who laid the original marble floors in 1997 returned to reimagine them, while preserved hardwood floors connect today’s guests with the footsteps of the past.

General Manager Joanne Selby describes the reopening as “a significant new chapter for an iconic address.” She notes that Cape Town’s true character lies not only in its scenery but in its resilience, creativity, and intimacy. “Our dedicated team – the familiar faces our guests know and trust – is ready to deliver a renewed level of hospitality, connecting you more deeply than ever to the vibrant soul of Cape Town.”

A New Era of Luxury Travel

InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town embodies the brand’s global evolution, balancing freedom with familiarity. Guests are offered complimentary access to Timeshifter, a NASA‑utilised app that mitigates jet lag, ensuring they arrive ready to embrace Cape Town’s energy. The hotel’s 40 suites and public spaces reflect contemporary refinement, soft natural tones, and the warmth of South African hospitality.

Insider Access to Cape Town

The property is woven into the fabric of the V&A Waterfront’s 123‑hectare neighbourhood, a hub welcoming millions annually. From ferries to Robben Island to excursions up Table Mountain, the hotel’s concierge connects guests to Cape Town’s cultural heartbeat – exclusive winelands escapes, ocean adventures, and hidden neighbourhood gems.

Culinary Journeys

Four distinct venues invite guests to savour Cape Town’s flavours:

  • Le Bistrot de JAN – Michelin‑starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen brings French bistro classics infused with Cape flair.
  • Flint & Fennel – All‑day dining with comforting dishes and afternoon tea.
  • The Botanist’s Table – A vibrant lounge showcasing artisanal gins and local wines.
  • Solandra – A radiant pool deck by day, transforming into a spirited evening venue with craft cocktails and wood‑fired pizzas.

Wellness and Serenity

Spa InterContinental Cape Town draws inspiration from indigenous botanicals and global traditions. With an authentic Turkish Hammam, lavish treatment rooms, and a fitness centre overlooking the harbour, it offers a sanctuary of balance and renewal.

Incredible Occasions

From intimate proposals to grand celebrations, the hotel’s event spaces – including three elegant salons and a light‑filled ballroom – provide a backdrop for life’s milestones. Every detail is curated with artistry and discretion, ensuring each occasion is unforgettable.

A Global Legacy

Joining over 235 InterContinental hotels across 70 countries, the Table Bay property strengthens IHG’s African presence of 38 open hotels and 9,200 rooms. Guests gain seamless access to IHG One Rewards, connecting Cape Town’s vibrant soul to a global community of travellers.
