FNB eBucks, Clicks and Engen Join Forces to Reward Everyday Spending

South Africans can now unlock more value from fuel, retail and banking purchases through a first-of-its-kind integrated rewards ecosystem.

As South Africans continue to face rising living costs and tighter household budgets, every rand counts. Recognising the growing demand for smarter spending, FNB eBucks, Clicks and Engen have unveiled a groundbreaking collaboration designed to reward consumers across some of their most frequent everyday purchases.

Launching on 1 August 2026, the new Trio ecosystem connects banking, fuel and retail into a single integrated rewards experience, allowing qualifying customers to unlock greater value simply by shopping and spending with brands they already use.

The initiative marks a significant evolution in South Africa’s loyalty landscape, shifting away from isolated rewards programmes towards a connected ecosystem that delivers benefits across multiple essential spending categories.

A New Era for Customer Rewards

Consumers have become increasingly strategic about where they spend, how they pay and which loyalty programmes genuinely deliver value.

The collaboration between FNB eBucks, Clicks, and Engen responds directly to this shift by rewarding customers who bank with FNB, fuel exclusively at Engen and shop at Clicks during the same calendar month.

Instead of earning rewards separately across different brands, qualifying customers can now benefit from a unified ecosystem that recognises their everyday spending behaviour.

According to Pieter Woodhatch, CEO of FNB eBucks Rewards, customers already spend across fuel, pharmacy, health, beauty and household essentials, but until now these purchases have largely been rewarded independently.

The Trio ecosystem changes that by bringing these everyday transactions together into one customer value proposition.

Earn Up to R12 Per Litre Back in eBucks

One of the biggest highlights of the new partnership is the enhanced fuel rewards available to qualifying customers.

Those who:

  • Are active FNB eBucks members
  • Fuel exclusively at Engen during a calendar month
  • Meet the required monthly spend threshold at Clicks
  • Pay using a qualifying physical or virtual FNB or RMB Private Bank Credit, Debit or Fusion card

can earn up to R12 per litre back in eBucks.

This includes an additional R4 per litre on top of the existing R8 per litre available through current qualifying eBucks reward behaviours.

The required monthly Clicks spend varies according to banking segment:

  • FNB Aspire: R650
  • FNB Premier: R850
  • FNB Private Clients: R1,000
  • FNB Private Wealth: R1,250
  • RMB Private Bank: R1,350

No registration is required. Customers who meet all qualifying criteria will automatically qualify for the additional rewards.

Loyalty Programmes Continue to Grow

The launch comes as South Africans continue embracing loyalty programmes in record numbers.

According to Truth & BrandMapp 2025/26 research, the average South African now belongs to 10.4 loyalty programmes, more than double the 4.6 programmes recorded a decade ago.

Rather than collecting rewards across disconnected brands, many consumers are now choosing trusted ecosystems that maximise value across multiple areas of their monthly budgets.

Woodhatch believes this changing behaviour is redefining the future of customer loyalty.

He notes that consumers increasingly want rewards that stretch beyond individual purchases and instead deliver meaningful savings across everyday spending categories such as fuel, groceries, healthcare and financial services.

Three Trusted Brands, One Connected Ecosystem

The partnership combines the strengths of three household names.

Clicks contributes one of South Africa’s largest loyalty programmes, boasting more than 13 million ClubCard members and over 1,000 stores nationwide.

Engen adds a network of more than 1,000 service stations, processing over one million transactions every day.

Together with FNB’s established eBucks rewards programme and digital banking platform, the collaboration creates one of South Africa’s largest integrated customer rewards ecosystems.

Enoch Hermanus, General Manager: Retail at Engen, says the partnership extends value beyond the fuel pump by helping customers save on one of their biggest monthly expenses while rewarding everyday behaviour.

Meanwhile, Fionna Ronnie, Retail Chief Marketing Officer at Clicks Group, says connected loyalty ecosystems represent the future of customer rewards by helping shoppers unlock benefits across health, beauty, wellness, fuel and financial services through brands they already know and trust.

Making Everyday Spending Work Harder

The Trio ecosystem reflects a broader shift in how loyalty programmes are evolving.

Instead of rewarding isolated purchases, the new model encourages connected spending across banking, retail and fuel, allowing consumers to extract more value from routine monthly expenses.

For South Africans navigating ongoing financial pressure, that means ordinary spending can now generate greater rewards without changing daily habits.

As loyalty programmes continue evolving, the collaboration between FNB eBucks, Clicks and Engen demonstrates how strategic partnerships can help consumers make every purchase count while delivering a more seamless rewards experience.
