South Africa’s competitive gaming scene is about to reach another exciting milestone as the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience arrives at CapeGate Shopping Centre from 14 to 16 August 2026, giving aspiring esports stars one final opportunity to qualify for the National Finals before the competition moves to Canal Walk.
As the last mall stop before the championship stage, the CapeGate event promises three action-packed days of tournament play, interactive gaming experiences and impressive prizes, welcoming everyone from seasoned competitors to first-time players eager to test their skills.
One Final Chance to Reach the National Finals
With the road to the MTN SHIFT National Finals nearing its conclusion, anticipation is building among South Africa’s gaming community.
Before the in-centre competition begins, players will battle it out in the EA FC 26™ Online Qualifier on 9 August 2026. The top four competitors will secure their place in the CapeGate Mall Qualifier, where the stakes become even higher.
The overall winner at CapeGate will receive a R2,500 CapeGate Gift Card and qualify for the National Football Final, where competitors will battle for a share of a R50,000 prize pool.
Second place will earn a R1,500 CapeGate Gift Card, while third place walks away with a R1,000 Gift Card.
More Than Just EA FC 26™
While football fans will have plenty to compete for, the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience offers far more than one tournament.
Visitors can challenge themselves across multiple gaming experiences, including:
- Beat Saber
- Fighting Cup featuring Brawlhalla, Tekken, and Street Fighter 6
- Keyboard Rebuild Race

- Free-play gaming stations
The variety ensures that players across different skill levels and gaming interests can get involved throughout the weekend.
