The Peech Welcomes Summer With Garden Dining, New Menus and More

Johannesburg is warming up, and The Peech Hotel in Melrose is giving the new season plenty of reasons to linger outdoors.

As spring settles over the city, mornings become softer, afternoons stretch longer and evenings invite a slower pace. Across The Peech’s two acres of established gardens, the boutique hotel is introducing a collection of new seasonal experiences designed to make the most of the warmer months.

The spring-to-summer offering includes new restaurant menus, a refreshed wines-by-the-glass selection, extended Monday dinner service at The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg and a new Garden Bar opening in mid-September.

Rather than feeling like an escape from Johannesburg, the experience is about seeing the city from a different angle.

A Garden Setting In The Heart Of Johannesburg

The Peech has built its reputation around a sense of calm, while its Melrose location keeps guests close to some of Johannesburg’s well-loved restaurants, galleries, shops and neighbourhoods.

The hotel was recently recognised in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2026, placing it among the top 10% of hotels worldwide.

Its approach to hospitality also extends beyond the guest experience.

The Peech has invested in a solar power system and its own water supply, alongside initiatives focused on reducing waste, conserving energy and supporting the wider community.

These include heat-pump water systems designed to lower energy consumption and ongoing support for organisations such as Little Eden.

The hotel was also among the first hotels in Johannesburg to achieve Fair Trade Tourism certification, reflecting its long-standing approach to more responsible tourism.

A New Garden Bar Is Coming

The biggest new addition for the season is the Garden Bar, opening in mid-September.

Designed to take guests from morning through to evening, the new space will begin the day with freshly brewed coffee and cold-pressed juices.

As the afternoon fades, the atmosphere will shift towards sundowners, house-curated cocktails and a selection of South African wines and spirits.

Overlooking the gardens, the bar is designed as a fun and welcoming addition to the hotel’s public spaces.

Its purpose goes beyond simply adding another place to order a drink. The space is intended to create a new heart for the public area, connecting the existing spaces across the hotel.

Terracotta, marble and raffia bring tactile natural materials into the design, creating the laid-back elegance associated with The Peech.

The refreshed wines-by-the-glass list will also give guests an opportunity to explore local producers and varietals over lunch, drinks or dinner.

New Season, New Plates

The changing season also arrives on the plate.

At The Garden Restaurant, which is reserved for hotel guests, the menu remains relaxed and seasonal.

Contemporary classics and produce-led dishes are designed around easy breakfasts, leisurely lunches and uncomplicated dinners overlooking the gardens.

Chef Ebie du Toit has introduced new dishes for the season, including grilled Wagyu fillet and West Coast lobster pasta for guests looking for a premium taste of South African produce.

At The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg, the restaurant continues with its globally inspired small plates, designed for sharing and built around bold flavours.

New seasonal dishes include Squid with Fragrant Herb Salad, Vermicelli and Passionfruit Nuoc Cham, Szechuan Fried Chicken with Salt & Pepper crust and Smashed Cucumber Salad with Miso & Tofu Emulsion.

Dessert also gets a seasonal refresh, with Single Origin Cheese and a Raspberry Sorbet with Goats Cheese Mousse joining the options.

The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg was named Hotel Restaurant of the Year at the 2026 LUXE Restaurant Awards.

There is now another opportunity to experience it too.

The restaurant has extended its weekly service to include Monday dinner, giving guests an additional evening to enjoy the menu.

For hotel guests, dinner comes with another advantage: the restaurant is only a short walk through the gardens.

No traffic. No parking search. No drive home.

Just dinner and the possibility of letting the evening unfold a little longer.

Turn Dinner Into A Summer Stay

For those who want more than an evening out, The Peech is offering its Summer Stay & Dine experience from 1 September to 31 December 2026, available from Thursday to Saturday.

  • A pre-dinner cocktail
  • Dinner at The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg with the Prix Fixe Loaded Menu
  • A surprise gesture from The Pot Luck Club team
  • Full à la carte breakfast the following morning

Additional nights can also be added at an extra cost.

Make A Day Of It

The warmer weather also opens up more ways to experience The Peech and its surroundings.

A morning can start with a walk or run through nearby James & Ethel Gray Park, followed by breakfast at the hotel.

Guests looking for something more active can head to padel courts within walking distance.

Those craving something slower can book a treatment at nearby Toast & Co or spend the afternoon beside one of The Peech’s two swimming pools.

Then, as the temperature softens, the focus turns naturally towards the gardens, the Garden Bar and dinner.

A Different Way To Experience Summer In Joburg

The appeal of The Peech’s summer offering is not built around one single experience.

It is the rhythm between them.

An early coffee.

A garden breakfast.

A long lunch.

An afternoon swim.

A game of padel.

A glass of South African wine as the sun begins to drop.

Then dinner, without having to worry about traffic or the journey home.

For spring and summer 2026, The Peech is creating more ways to slow down, eat well and enjoy Johannesburg — while staying firmly within the city itself.
