The Alex 10K Returns Bigger, Bolder and More Impactful

On Saturday, 21 March 2026, the streets of Alexandra will once again pulse with energy, purpose and pride as the Alex 10K returns — not just as a race, but as a movement transforming lives.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Alexandra Township, this year’s edition will take place at the Altrec Sports Complex, drawing thousands of runners, families and supporters for a day where sport meets social impact.

From Grassroots Dream to Gauteng Standout Event

Launched in 2023 by the Run Alex Athletics Club, the Alex 10K began as a bold idea — an 8km “Find Your Fit Run” hosted at Alexandra Plaza, designed to promote health and prove that road running could thrive in the township.

What followed was nothing short of remarkable.

In just a few years, the race has grown into one of the most exciting fixtures on the Central Gauteng Athletics calendar, evolving into a full 10K race alongside a 5km option that includes junior prize categories.

From its humble beginnings, the Alex 10K has become a flagship event — rooted in community, driven by purpose.

Running for More Than the Finish Line

At its heart, the Alex 10K is about far more than medals and personal bests.

The race continues to serve a powerful dual mission:

  • Supporting grassroots operations of the Run Alex Athletics Club

  • Funding educational initiatives through the Children of Alexandra Learning Initiative, particularly the Read Alex Project

This Saturday programme is changing lives — improving literacy and educational outcomes for young people in Alexandra, one lesson at a time.

Every step taken on race day contributes to a larger story of opportunity, growth and hope.

A Partnership That Fuels Growth

Behind the race’s rapid rise is the continued support of Adreach Impact Brand Solutions, whose sponsorship has been instrumental in scaling the event year after year.

  • 2023: Official Media Sponsor — 800 participants at launch

  • 2024: Elevated to Main Sponsor, rebranding to the Adreach Alex 10K — attendance nearly doubled to over 1,500

  • 2025: Hosted at Altrec Sports Complex — numbers surged past 2,500 attendees

The 2025 race also delivered standout athletic performances, including:

  • A men’s course record of 32:05 by Keann Domingo

  • A women’s winning time of 44:54 by Tshegofatso Vocho

Now, all eyes are on 2026.

2026: A Sold-Out Celebration of Community

Organisers are expecting over 3,000 participants, positioning the Alex 10K as not only a premier road race but a powerful platform for:

  • Youth development

  • Community health and fitness

  • Township economic upliftment

Participants will once again have the chance to “Explore Alex on Foot,” experiencing a route that weaves through the township’s rich cultural and historical landscape — from places of worship to entertainment hubs and sporting landmarks.

More Than a Race — A Legacy in Motion

For Zuza Mbatha, the event represents something far deeper than a single day on the calendar.

“This event is more than a race, it’s a powerful force for positive change in Alexandra, blending sport, education, and community empowerment.”

From its early days as a media partnership to its continued sponsorship, Adreach has witnessed the race evolve into a symbol of what’s possible when purpose meets action.

Be Part of the Movement

As anticipation builds, one thing is clear:

The Alex 10K is no longer just an event — it’s a celebration of resilience, unity and transformation.

A place where every stride tells a story.
Where every kilometre carries meaning.
And where a community comes together to colour its streets with hope.
