Escape to the Winelands This Father’s Day

Why @Franschhoek Hotel Is Offering Dads the Perfect Winter Getaway

This Father’s Day, the best gift may not be wrapped in a box at all.

Instead of another pair of socks, a novelty mug or a braai where Dad ends up doing all the work, @Franschhoek Hotel is inviting families to trade city traffic for vineyard views, mountain air and a slower pace of life in one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine regions.

Just an hour from Cape Town, the hotel offers a chance to turn Father’s Day into something more memorable — quality time away from everyday routines, surrounded by the natural beauty and rich heritage of Franschhoek.

A Winter Escape Worth Taking

Running until the end of August, @Franschhoek Hotel is offering two discounted winter room rate specials designed to encourage guests to book early or extend their stay.

The promotion transforms a simple Father’s Day outing into a full winelands experience, giving families the opportunity to spend meaningful time together while enjoying everything the region has to offer.

Nestled among rolling vineyards and framed by dramatic mountain landscapes, the hotel provides the ideal setting for a relaxing winter getaway.

But it is not only the scenery that makes the destination special.

Where Great Beer Meets Great Stories

Located on the same historic property as the hotel is Hey Joe Brewery, a Belgian-inspired brewery and taproom that has become one of the area’s most unique attractions.

For beer-loving dads, the experience offers more than simply enjoying a pint.

Visitors can explore the brewing process through a brewery tour before settling into the taproom to enjoy freshly crafted beer. Meanwhile, younger guests can make use of the outdoor play area, creating a family-friendly experience that everyone can enjoy.

As the day unfolds, guests can move effortlessly from brewery to hotel, ending the evening just steps away from where their favourite brew was poured.

The Legend of Hey Joe

Part of what makes the brewery experience so memorable is the fascinating story behind its name.

According to local legend, Hey Joe was a mysterious Belgian brewer who settled in Franschhoek decades ago. Living in isolation within a hidden cabin deep in the woods, he spent years perfecting his brewing craft and refining a secret recipe.

The story goes that a young traveller eventually discovered the elusive brewer and became fascinated by his dedication to the art of beer-making. Inspired by what he learned, the traveller carried Joe’s legacy forward, establishing a brewery named in honour of the enigmatic craftsman.

Legend even suggests that Joe still appears from time to time to personally finish each batch.

Whether fact or folklore, the tale adds an extra layer of charm to every brewery visit.

More Than a Father’s Day Gift

What makes the Franschhoek experience particularly appealing is its simplicity.

There are no crowded shopping centres, rushed restaurant bookings or predictable gift boxes.

Instead, families can enjoy time together, explore a brewery, relax among the vineyards and create memories that last long after Father’s Day has passed.

The combination of scenic surroundings, comfortable accommodation and the unique character of Hey Joe Brewery turns a single day into an experience worth sharing.

A Celebration Built Around Dad

Father’s Day is ultimately about appreciation.

It is about creating space for the person who often spends much of the year looking after everyone else.

At @Franschhoek Hotel, that celebration comes in the form of mountain views, fresh winter air, quality family time and a good Belgian-inspired beer enjoyed in one of South Africa’s most picturesque destinations.

This year, instead of staying in the city, why not take Dad somewhere with a story to tell?

The winelands are waiting.
