MAGGI South Africa has opened an exciting new chapter for one of the country’s most recognisable food brands with the launch of its newly improved chicken flavoured noodles. Designed to deliver a bolder, more satisfying taste, the refreshed recipe builds on the flavour generations of South Africans have grown up enjoying while adapting to the changing tastes and lifestyles of today’s consumers.
The relaunch was officially unveiled at an exclusive event held in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on 23 July 2026, where renowned chefs, cooks and leading food content creators gathered to experience the revamped recipe firsthand.
A recipe inspired by changing consumer tastes
Today’s South African consumers expect more from the products they buy. According to recent findings highlighted by Innova Marketing Insights, shoppers are increasingly looking for products that support their overall health and nutrition while still delivering exceptional flavour.
These evolving preferences played a key role in shaping MAGGI’s latest innovation.
Baeng Machele, Food Category Marketing Manager at Nestlé East and Southern Africa Region (ESAR), says consumer insights were central to the relaunch.
“We have always offered South Africans quality noodles, and this is what our consumers have come to expect of us. This year, MAGGI is back with a tastier and bolder chicken flavoured recipe that not only delivers on flavour but also gives consumers a versatile base they can pair with ingredients already in their homes, such as vegetables, eggs or other proteins, to create a more balanced meal that responds to today’s needs.”
The result is a recipe that offers a richer chicken flavour while remaining familiar to loyal MAGGI fans.
A source of iron and high in energy
Beyond taste, the improved chicken flavoured noodles continue to offer nutritional value.
The noodles are a source of iron and high in energy, making them a practical meal option for many South Africans, particularly students and working adults looking for a quick and convenient meal during busy days.
Consumers are also encouraged to personalise their meals by adding vegetables, eggs or other proteins to create more balanced dishes using the noodles as a versatile base.
Proudly produced in South Africa
Behind every packet of the improved noodles is a proudly local success story.
The revamped chicken recipe combines carefully selected herbs and spices to create a fuller, more satisfying flavour. Before reaching supermarket shelves, the recipe underwent rigorous testing and quality checks using advanced technology to ensure it meets MAGGI’s standards for superior taste and noodle quality.
Importantly, the noodles are produced locally at Nestlé’s Babelegi factory in Tshwane, making MAGGI noodles a proudly South African product and a genuine Mzansi original.
Bringing generations together
While the recipe has evolved, MAGGI believes its greatest strength remains unchanged—its ability to connect people.
The relaunch introduces the brand’s new global communication platform, “Me and MAGGI So Good Together,” which celebrates how food continues to bring families and friends together despite generational differences.
The campaign uses a playful “1K vs 2K” conversation, where Millennials and Gen Z may disagree about music, fashion or movies, but ultimately find common ground over a familiar bowl of MAGGI noodles.
Machele says the campaign reflects the unique role the brand continues to play in South African homes.
“We wanted to have a bit of fun with that by getting Millennials and Gen Z debating who had it better, only to discover they both land on the same bowl of noodles. It’s rare to find a brand that genuinely connects generations in the same way. The conversation may change, but MAGGI continues to bring people together over a familiar bowl of noodles.”
A familiar favourite, reimagined
The improved chicken recipe is backed by more than six years of consumer research, helping ensure the new flavour delivers a more satisfying eating experience while preserving the taste South Africans know and love.
According to Nithal Soni Ramjee, Business Executive Officer for Food at Nestlé ESAR, the refreshed recipe balances innovation with familiarity.
“Backed by more than six years of consumer research and the use of advanced technology, our newly improved chicken flavoured recipe delivers a more satisfying taste while staying true to the flavour people know and love. We are excited to be giving South Africans an even better MAGGI experience for today’s lifestyles.”
Alongside the improved recipe, consumers will also notice refreshed packaging, more value-driven pack sizes and a campaign designed to celebrate the enduring appeal of one of South Africa’s favourite noodle brands.
Whether enjoyed as an after-school snack, a quick student meal or an easy dinner after a long day, MAGGI’s newly improved chicken flavoured noodles aim to offer the familiar comfort consumers expect—now with an even bolder taste.
