South Africa, get ready for Olivia Dean.
The Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter has been announced as the headline act for Milk + Cookies Festival South Africa 2027, bringing one of the UK’s most celebrated musical voices to two of the country’s biggest cities next January.
Dean will perform at Sandringham Farm in Cape Town on 29 January 2027 before heading to Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on 31 January. She joins the previously announced line-up featuring Elaine, Zee Nxumalo, Chelsea Sloan and Jade T, with more artists still to be revealed.
Now entering its third South African edition, Milk + Cookies Festival continues to build its identity around music, creativity and culture, bringing international names and local talent together for an experience that stretches beyond the stage.
Olivia Dean’s Award-Winning Moment Comes to South Africa
Dean’s announcement arrives during a remarkable period in her career.
In 2026, she won the Grammy for Best New Artist and collected four BRIT Awards, including British Artist of the Year, British Album of the Year, Best Pop Act and Song of the Year.
The recognition followed the success of her second album, The Art of Loving, released on 26 September 2025 through Capitol Records.
The album reached number one in the UK and was certified double platinum, according to the festival’s announcement. Its success helped establish Dean as a major force in contemporary British music.
Her single Man I Need also achieved significant chart success. The release reached number one in the UK, while the album and single reached numbers three and two, respectively, on the US Billboard charts.
Dean’s growing international audience has translated into major live performances. She sold out her first UK arena tour within minutes, including six dates at London’s The O2. She also performed two sold-out nights at Marlay Park in Dublin, playing to more than 40,000 fans.
In July 2026, she embarked on her biggest US headline tour to date, including four sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Her South African appearances will bring this acclaimed artist to local audiences as Milk + Cookies enters another chapter of its growing festival story.
A Festival That Refuses to Be Defined by One Genre
What happens when a festival moves from electronic music to rap and then soul? For Milk + Cookies, that variety is part of the vision.
Kaytranada headlined the festival’s first South African edition in 2025, performing before a crowd of 20,000 people. Gunna followed in 2026. Now, Olivia Dean takes the headline position for 2027.
The progression reflects the festival’s willingness to cross musical boundaries rather than build its identity around a single genre.
Chase Freeman, Head of Marketing at Milk + Cookies, says the common thread is the experience shared by the audience, rather than a particular sound.
“Never the same sound, always the same feeling,” Freeman says.
He explains that the festival books artists with the people in the audience in mind, focusing on the atmosphere and connections created through live music.
Freeman also credits South Africa’s audiences and creative community with helping shape the festival’s development since its arrival in the country.
What began as a debut event featuring 20,000 people has grown to more than 30,000 attendees across Cape Town and Johannesburg, according to the organisers.
More Than Music: Food, Fashion, Art and Culture
Milk + Cookies Festival is designed to bring different parts of the creative world together.
Alongside its headline performances, the wider programme brings music, food, fashion, art and design into the same space. Panels, workshops, pop-ups and parties form part of the platform’s broader approach to cultural programming.
The festival also works with local artists, creators, venues and partners in each city, placing South African talent within an international cultural experience.
Additional artists and the full programme for the 2027 edition are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
This broader approach is central to Milk + Cookies’ identity. Founded in Atlanta by four friends, the global music and culture platform was built around the belief that the people creating culture should have a meaningful role in shaping the platforms through which it reaches audiences.
Its South African edition brings that philosophy into a local setting, connecting international performers with the people and creative communities that make each destination distinctive.

A New Chapter for South African Festival Culture
Olivia Dean’s arrival adds another major international name to South Africa’s summer music calendar.
Her headline performances will bring together an artist enjoying significant global recognition and a festival that has steadily expanded its local audience since 2025.
Yet the bigger story is the platform Milk + Cookies continues to build: one where music crosses genres, international stars share space with South African talent, and culture extends beyond the performances themselves.
With Elaine, Zee Nxumalo, Chelsea Sloan and Jade T already announced, and more acts still to come, the 2027 edition has more to reveal.
Cape Town gets its moment on 29 January, followed by Johannesburg on 31 January.
For fans of Olivia Dean and anyone drawn to music that moves between genres and cultures, Milk + Cookies Festival South Africa 2027 is one to watch.
